Details surrounding the plot of the film, which is set to be penned by S.J. Inwards, are being kept close to the chest by those involved, but sources report the story will focus on a teenage girl as she struggles to get a grip on her own mortality while also contending with the consequences of her ambition. It will take cues from Shakespeare’s tragic character, who was well-known for being a calculating woman and prodding her titular husband towards murder and war.

The project will be directed by John McPhail, who broke out to international audiences with the acclaimed 2017 Christmas musical zombie comedy Anna and the Apocalypse. Braun is attached to produce alongside Scott Manson and James Shin for SB Projects while Tatum will produce with partners Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan and Michael Parets via their banner, Free Association, with Parets overseeing for Free Association and Shin for SB Projects.

SB Projects currently has a first-look TV deal with the streaming platform while also helping produce FX’s hit comedy Dave and the CBS crime procedural Scorpion and are currently attached to HBO Max’s Anna K, an untitled K-Pop film for Fox and the Black Panther drama A Taste of Power.

Toronto International Film Festival Sets 2020 Hybrid Lineup

Shortly after fellow prestige cinema convention Venice announced its lineup for the 2020 edition, Toronto Film Festival has revealed its full roster of projects set to premiere at its hybrid event, including Chloe Zhao’s upcoming adaptation of Nomadland starring Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

RELATED: Venice Film Festival 2020 Competition Lineup Unveiled

With the global pandemic still going on in the states and some parts of the world, the festival will be slimmed down in comparison to past outings and will focus mostly on Oscar fare rather than also including major blockbuster productions. In trying to follow in the footsteps of Venice Film Festival, the North American showcase of films at TIFF will feature 46 percent of films directed or co-directed by women in an effort for better gender parity compared to last year’s 36 percent.

TIFF will screen its films over the first five days with physical, socially-distanced exhibitions provided there are no spikes in the region, with indoor gathering sizes being allotted up to 50 people, but for members of the public and press who feel uncomfortable with going in-person, screenings and market business will still be taking place online.

TIFF has a proud history of programming award-winning films, expanding the conversation to include a multitude of voices, and in creating boundary-pushing initiatives for the industry,” Joana Vicente, Executive Director and Co-Head, TIFF, said in a statement on the official festival website. “And this year we’ve added new innovations and ways to give back to the community. In doing so, we’re aiming to advance what a film festival is capable of delivering — for audiences and the film industry. We could never have anticipated the global seismic changes we would be facing in 2020. We tapped into the original spirit of the Festival from when it began in 1976 as our guiding light. The distilled edition of TIFF 2020 reflects a deep love of film, passion for our loyal audiences, commitment to the industry, and a whole lot of heart.

Luca: Pixar announces new Italy-set animated film for 2021

Walt Disney Studios and Pixar have announced their newest animated feature titled Luca, hailing from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Enrico Casarosa, who is known for his work on the 2011 animated short La Luna. The new Pixar film is scheduled to make its debut in the summer of 2021. This announcement comes ahead of the upcoming theatrical release of their Jamie Foxx-led animated film Soul on November 20.

Set in Italy, the animated film is being described as a coming-of-age adventure that will tell the story of a young boy named Luca as he experiences an unforgettable summer with his newfound best friend in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera. But all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” Casarosa said in a statement. (via Variety) “So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

Ron Howard Confirms Lucasfilm Isn’t Developing a Solo Sequel

Ron Howard confirms that Lucasfilm isn’t developing a Solo: A Star Wars Story sequel

Even though Solo: A Star Wars Story probably doesn’t rank highly on anyone’s list of the best Star Wars films, the movie ended on a pretty big cliffhanger when it was released in 2018. So it makes sense that some fans are hoping to get a sequel, if only to tie up loose ends. Over the last two years, rumors about Lucasfilm’s plans for Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo have continued to swirl online. But now, a new update has come courtesy of director Ron Howard, and it’s not very reassuring.

Howard recently spoke to Radio Andy on Sirius XM (via ComicBook.com) about the various projects he’s currently working on. Sadly, his upcoming slate doesn’t include a Solo follow-up.

“Well, there’s no sequel planned now,” said Howard. “And it’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect. But that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”

RELATED: POLL RESULTS: How Should Solo Return to the Star Wars Universe?

“Strange” doesn’t even begin to describe Solo’s evolution from concept to screen. Lucasfilm originally hired Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct the movie in 2015 and they began shooting in 2017. However, the studio fired them a mere five months into production due to creative differences. Howard subsequently came onboard to replace them, and he allegedly re-shot at least 70% of the film.

Howard’s latest comments follow rumors that began making the rounds last week about how Lucasfilm was considering a new Disney+ series headlined by Donald Glover’s young Lando Calrissian. Unfortunately, a show like this probably won’t be materializing anytime soon. Solo co-writer Jon Kasdan also weighed in on the chances of a sequel back in March, but his outlook was similarly bleak. Regardless, Howard and Kasdan aren’t completely severing their relationship with the House of Mouse. During the same interview with Radio Andy, Howard claimed that their long-gestating Willow sequel series is in “active development” at Disney+.
