Anne Hathaway Claims Christopher Nolan Doesn’t Allow Chairs On Set

Anne Hathaway Claims Christopher Nolan Doesn’t Allow Chairs On Set

In a recent interview with Variety, actress Anne Hathaway revealed a funny little tidbit about director Christopher Nolan, who she has worked with on The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar — the man doesn’t like chairs on set.

“Chris also doesn’t allow chairs,” Hathaway said. “I worked with him twice. He doesn’t allow chairs, and his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working. I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget. I think he’s onto something with the chair thing.”

Hathaway insists that working with Nolan, chairs or not, was a rewarding experience.

“You know how you have those jobs and you just go, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to work again because this was such fun,’” Hathaway said. “Chris’ whole approach to filmmaking is one of my favorite ones. He’s broken it down to its most minimal, but also his movies are just so huge and ornate. That combination of really being intentional about what it was that we were doing — and also, he’s just so inspiring.”

Nolan’s next film is the big-budget spectacle Tenet, which was slated to hit theaters in July, but has since been pushed back to August 12. The film is written by Nolan and will utilize a mixture of IMAX and 70mm film, which is something he’s become famous for.

The director first made an impact in 2001 with his indie film Memento. His next film, Insomnia, was also a modest hit. but it wasn’t until Batman Begins hit theaters in 2005 that Nolan became a box office force in his own right. The Prestige was Nolan’s last movie to gross under $200 million worldwide. His other films include The Dark KnightThe Dark Knight RisesInceptionInterstellar, and Dunkirk.

Nolan is producing Tenet along with his partner Emma Thomas and is currently slated for an August 12 release.

Ray Fisher Retracts His Support for Joss Whedon’s Justice League

Ray Fisher Retracts His Support for Joss Whedon’s Justice League

Poor Joss Whedon. The man is taking it hard in the chin for essentially doing the job Warner Bros. asked him to do on Justice League. Now, Ray Fisher has taken to Twitter to renounce his loyalty to Joss Whedon, effectively retracting a statement he made at Comic Con in which he threw his support at The Avengers director. You can check out the full Tweet below.

“I’d like to take a moment to forcefully retract every bit of this statement,” Fisher says regarding a video in which he says, “Joss Whedon is a good guy and Zack picked a good person to clean up and finish up for him.” (The look on Jason Mamoa’s face during that clip says it all.)

Whedon’s Justice League was not very good, but that was more to do with a rushed production, and a limited budget. Given more time and a blank slate to work with, Whedon could probably make an enjoyable Justice League flick on par with his first two Avengers films.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reportedly cost around $20-30 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut. No new footage will be shot, however.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League, which features a screenplay from Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio, stars Affleck as Batman, Cavill as Superman, Gadot as Wonder Woman, Momoa as Aquaman, Miller as The Flash, Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Released in November 2017, the film earned mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the action and performances from Gadot and Miller while criticizing every other aspect of the film, namely the inconsistent tone that many fault Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for after taking over directorial duties from Snyder. With a large budget of $300 million and a break-even point of $750 million, the film is considered a box office bomb having grossed only $658 million.

Bad Taste

Lord of the Rings‘ Peter Jackson’s first foray into features lives up to its name and then some, featuring crazy gross-out gags created through ingenious special effects that defy the low low budget. Jackson himself plays two roles, and you can see the first inklings of one of the most successful filmmakers of all-time.

The Baby

Released the same year he made Magnum Force, Ted Post’s 1973 oddity follows a social worker who discovers a grown man who has been pathologically infantilized by his mother. The man literally still thinks and acts like a baby, sleeps in a crib, etc. This is a wild flick with a whopper of a twist ending you definitely won’t see coming.

Messiah of Evil

Aroung the same time they co-wrote the classic American Graffiti (but long before they made the infamous Howard the Duck), husband/wife team Willard Huyck & Gloria Katz made this cheapie horror flick. Despite its low budget trappings, this creepy story about a woman who travels to a strange town to find her missing father only to encounter a strange death cult is full of surreal moments that are genuinely jarring at times. A very underrated film, that also features classic character actors Elisha Cook Jr. and Royal Dano.

Horror Express

This Spanish-made cult classic is like Murder on the Orient Express mashed up with a Hammer Horror flick. Hammer vets Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing lead the charge as passengers aboard the Trans-Siberian Express from China to Moscow in 1906 as they deal with one of the weirdest monsters ever, an extraterrestrial that inhabits host bodies and leaves images of pre-historic earth in their eyes. Yeah. Telly Savalas is having a ball as a willful Cossack officer, and the movie is filled with a lot of fun miniature work of the train.

The Slayer

This film could almost be seen as a kind of precursor to the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (right down to the burn victim dream monster), following an abstract artist named Kay plagued by nightmares of supernatural torment and death. Fearing her mental health, Kay’s friends take her on a vacation to an island which they discover upon landing is actually deserted. Trapped on the island by a hurricane, the group starts getting picked off one by one every time Kay falls asleep.

The Changeling

This classic shocker (which is poised for a big remake) stars George C. Scott in a bravura performance as a composer who moves into an eerie Victorian mansion after the tragic deaths of his wife and child. Once he moves in he begins experiencing supernatural phenomena. With chilling atmosphere, this is one of the most accomplished horror films of the 80’s.

Fist of the North Star

Essentially an animated Japanese Road Warrior riff with a lot of mysticism and martial arts thrown in, this film based on the manga “Hokuto no Ken tankōbon” is a violent hoot. The protagonist Ken (dressed in full Mad Max regalia) has mastered the art of Hokuto Shinken, wherein he basically rapid-fire punches bad guys on their pressure points until their heads and bodies literally explode! Available in both Japanese with subs and an English dub.

Satan’s School For Girls

This 1973 made-for-TV movie (produced by Aaron Spelling!) is not as salacious as its title suggests. It’s actually a cracking gothic terror tale set at an all-girls academy where a young woman played by Pamela Franklin goes to look into the death of her sister. Roy Thinnes is terrific, and it also features a pre-Charlie’s Angels Kate Jackson!

Tideland

Terry Gilliam’s wildly misunderstood and underseen masterpiece is something in between Alice in Wonderland and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Jodelle Ferland stars as an imaginative young girl whose parents (Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Tilly) both overdose and she is left stranded in a remote farm house with some very strange neighbors across the way. This is a movie designed to be divisive and test your limits as a viewer in almost every way, especially via the juxtaposition of the genuinely innocent and the severely disturbing.

Creature

A year before Aliens came out, that films effects artists Dennis Skotak and Robert Skotak actually did the impressive effects for this Alien ripoff. Directed by William Malone and featuring a fun cast including Klaus Kinski, it’s heavy on spooky atmosphere and a must-see for Xenomorph fans. The version available on the service is actually the director’s cut titled “The Titan Find.”

Quibi Unveils Ensemble for The Princess Bride Recreation

Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride is one of the most everlasting romantic adventure comedies that no one wants to see a remake of, but Quibi has found a workaround as they have partnered with Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) for an ensemble recreation! (Via Entertainment Weekly)

Reitman previously staged live reads of the cult classic at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2011 and Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 and filmed the recreation special in secret in quarantine. The cast list for the special includes Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Common (The Chi) and Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and David Burtka, Hugh Jackman (Logan), Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes), Keegan-Michael Key (All the Bright Places), Elijah Wood (Come to Daddy), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Jack Black (Jumanji: The Next Level), Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico), Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), Jon Hamm (Tag), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Patton Oswalt (The Boys), Josh Gad (Frozen II), Reiner and Fred Savage!

Other cast members are currently being kept under wraps, with the roster all trading off roles across the film’s iconic sequences and Savage reprising his role. It marks the second time in the past few years he’s reprised his role in an homage-fashion after the PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2 entitled Once Upon a Deadpool.

Based on the William Goldman novel of the same name, the 1987 film told the story of a farmhand named Westley, portrayed by Cary Elwes, as he journeys to rescue his true love, Princess Buttercup, played by Robin Wright, and is accompanied by companions befriended along the way, including Spanish fencer Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), out for revenge for the death of his father. To preserve the novel’s existence, the story is told in the film as a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading it to his sick grandson (Savage).

NEON and Topic Studios have co-acquired the U.S. rights to director Pablo Larraín’s (JackieNerudaLisey’s Story) Spencer starring Kristen Stewart (SebergUnderwaterStill Alice) as Princess Diana.

RELATED: Kristen Stewart to Play Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s Spencer

Written by Steven Knight (Eastern PromisesPeaky BlindersLocke), Spencer covers a critical weekend in the early ’90s when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working and that she needed to veer from a path that put her in line to one day be queen. The film takes place over three days, in one of her final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor in their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England.

The movie won’t deal with Princess Diana’s tragic death after she left that palace life, but will examine the fraying of the relationship with her husband and her ferocious love for her sons Prince William and Prince Henry.

CS Movie Day Planner: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

CS Movie Day Planner: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Comingsoon.net is introducing a new feature called CS Movie Day Planner, where we pick a movie and list all the activities the main character did in a single day. Check out Ferris Bueller’s day in the gallery below!

RELATED: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Cast Reunites on Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart

Many of us around the world have the day off. Our circumstances are less than appealing but we must stay optimistic. John Hughes’ character, Ferris Bueller from the 1986 classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, is one of the most optimistic personas to ever grace the screen. The guy can handle anything. He epitomizes what it means to be alive and free—missing 9 days of school not to slack off, watch television or play video games, but to live and embrace the world he lives in.

RELATED: CS Soapbox: Supernatural Will Do What GoT & Star Wars Could Not—End Well

We can’t do that last part right now but we can live vicariously through Ferris. Faking sick may not be the most appropriate way to acquire some free time (especially during a global pandemic); however, the day Bueller had in 1986 is that of legend. It’s not just about what he did but how he did it: liberating his best friend Cameron and spending time with the girl he loved. Most of the quotes in the following list are by Ferris as we follow his POV (unless stated otherwise). With Ferris-like tenacity, we’ve done our best to honor the schedule of the greatest day off of all-time (but it’s also a movie so suspend your disbelief a little).
