STX Films has released a new Greenland trailer for the thriller starring Gerard Butler’s (300, Law Abiding Citizen, Fallen series) that is set for release in theaters on August 14. Check out the trailer in the player below!

A family fights for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son Nathan make a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary. Amid terrifying news accounts of cities around the world being leveled by the comet’s fragments, the Garrity’s experience the best and worst in humanity while they battle the increasing panic and lawlessness surrounding them. As the countdown to global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven.

Greenland also stars Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, V) and Scott Glenn (The Hunt for Red October, The Silence of the Lambs). The movie is written by Chris Sparling (Buried, The Sea of Trees) with revisions by Mitchell LaFortune.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Shot Caller, Snitch), the film is being produced by Thunder Road Films’ Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, John Wick), who also had a hand in development, alongside Butler and Alan Siegel via their G-BASE production company. Anton is both producing and fully financing the picture, while CAA Media Finance arranged its financing, as well as represented the project’s domestic rights alongside Anton.

Dan Aykroyd Says Ghostbusters Afterlife Honorably Represents Harold Ramis

We still have a long time to wait for Ghostbusters: Afterlife to hit theaters, but cast and crew have been making the rounds to discuss the threequel. Case in point, Dan Aykroyd dropped by Entertainment Weekly and shared this important nugget info regarding his former co-star Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014:

“To have that formation without that man standing right there on the line with us was a pretty serious adjustment. He will be very well represented in the new film, I can tell you that. He’s very honorably represented.”

Aykroyd then teased a few elements about the film, notably that Jason Reitman is “passing the DNA of the first two movies directly to the new generation. It’s just a lot of fun to see these terrific young actors slinging the old Cadillac around and having the equipment in their hands. The story that develops from that is scary and funny and heartfelt and also funny. And it feeds into the possibility of more follow-ups with this group and with others who want to join.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will focus on a new family with single mom Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe (Finn Wolfhard & Mckenna Grace) who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma only to discover that there’s something strange in the neighborhood. Unexplained quakes shake the town. There’s an old mine nearby that bears the name of Ivo Shandor, who built the Manhattan high-rise in the 1984 film that channeled the forces of evil. Paul Rudd costars as a local teacher who’s been documenting the unexplained phenomena, befriending Callie and her kids and helping make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before.

12-year-old Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel, Annabelle Comes Home) stars in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, with Carrie Coon (The Leftovers) playing her mother and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT) as her brother. Paul Rudd (Avengers: Endgame) will be playing a teacher in the film, while Oliver Cooper and Bokeem Woodbine will also be featured. Original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts will reprise their characters.

Jason Reitman (Juno, Young Adult, Tully) directed the new film, taking over from his father Ivan Reitman who helmed the first two and will produce. Reitman, who had a cameo in 1989’s Ghostbusters 2, co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan (Monster House, Poltergeist), who is no stranger to ghost stories.

Bullet Train: Director David Leitch to Helm Action Thriller for Sony

Variety brings word that filmmaker David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Atomic Blonde) has boarded Sony Pictures’ action-thriller Bullet Train.

On top of directing, Leitch will supervise the script written by Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street). Plot details for Bullet Train are currently being kept under wraps, but it is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Isaka Kotaro.

Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce the project via their company 87North along with Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven, Training Day, The Equalizer) and Kat Samick (The Equalizer, Southpaw, Infinite). Brittany Morrissey is the executive overseeing the film for Sony Pictures.

Leitch and McCormick recently signed a first-look deal at Universal and produced the action film Nobody, starring Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, which is expected to release in February 2021. The duo is also developing a biopic of Jutta Kleinschmidt, the first and only woman to win the brutal off-road endurance race known as The Dakar Rally, as well as the rights to her book My Victory at Dakar.

Joseph Kosinski in talks to helm Twister reboot at Universal

The late ’90s saw a major resurgence in the natural disaster genre and one of the best of the era was 1996’s Twister starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt and in looking back at the film’s major box office success, Universal is eying a reboot of the blockbuster with Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) in talks to direct, according to Variety.

The original film followed Paxton’s Bill “The Extreme” Harding and Hunt’s Dr. Joanne Harding, two storm chasers on the brink of divorce who decide to team up to chase a record outbreak of tornadoes in Oklahoma and deliver their advance weather alert system in the path of the twister to track more storms.

Plot details for the upcoming reboot are currently unknown, with no writers currently attached to pen the script for the project, but sources report that Universal is looking to actively develop this project with Kosinski behind the camera. The 1996 film was helmed by Speed director Jan De Bont, executive produced by Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List) and co-written by Anne-Marie Martin (Prom Night) and Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton.

Frequent Spielberg collaborator Frank Marshall (Jurassic World: Dominion) is set to produce the project and is currently meeting with potential screenwriters while senior VP of production Sara Scott will oversee the project for the studio.

Upon release in 1996, Twister was a major box office success, grossing over $495 million at the global box office on its estimated $88-92 million budget and received mixed reviews from critics, all of whom praised the film’s groundbreaking special effects, which earned the film two Oscar nominations for Best Special Effects and Best Sound. The blockbuster was spun off into an attraction at Universal Studios Florida in 1998 with filmed introductions from Paxton and Hunt, but was shut down in 2015 and replaced with Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil’s Eli Craig new horror rom-com lands at Netflix

Writer/director Eli Craig blew audiences away in 2010 with his feature directorial debut Tucker & Dale vs Evil and now he’s ready to keep the horror comedy train rolling at Netflix as he has signed on to direct the horror rom-com The Hills Have Eyes For You at Netflix, according to Deadline.

The film, which is penned by Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon co-writer David Stieve, is keeping its plot details close to the belt, but sources report the film will play with various tropes of its respective genres much in the same vein as Craig and Stieve’s past works.

“This is a unique underdog love story with genre bending scares and a lot of laughs,” Craig said in a statement. “I think I’ll be in my element for this one.”

The project is set to be produced by Dan Farah, who calls it “a fresh and fun love story set against the backdrop of an elevated horror comedy,” and will be executive produced by Andrew Farah, with Stephanie Davis attached as co-producer.

After getting his start in Hollywood in front of the camera in the late ’90s, Craig transitioned to behind the camera in a producer capacity on a number of documentaries and shorts before eventually writing and directing a short of his own and making his feature debut with the 2010 horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs Evil, which became a cult classic and modest box office success. He would later return by the camera in 2017 for the Netflix horror comedy Little Evil starring Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly, which received rave reviews from critics.

Keke Palmer-led Alice adds Common & Jonny Lee Miller

After landing the Scream Queens and Hustlers star earlier this month, the upcoming thriller Alice has begun expanding its cast further with the additions of The Chi star and executive producer Common and Elementary alum Jonny Lee Miller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Alice is inspired by the true vents of a woman of servitude in 1800s Georgia, who escapes the 55-acre confines of her captor to discover the shocking reality that exists beyond the tree line — it’s 1973.

“So many films that depict this time in our history are rooted in victimization of the black female lead,” Palmer said in a previous statement. “This story is the opposite and that’s what attracted me to Krystin’s perspective. It tackles the harsh realities of slavery and white supremacy while also offering inspiration and vindication through the story of Alice’s journey. I don’t want anyone to leave the theater feeling debilitated, I want them to feel empowered.”

The movie will be helmed by Krystin Ver Linden, making her directorial debut from her own screenplay.

Alice will be produced by Peter Lawson (John Wick, Spotlight). Jose Agustin Valdes and Luisa Fernanda Espinosa of Steel Springs Pictures will executive produce. Steel Springs is fully financing the project and principal photography is expected to begin this August in Georgia.

“Common and Jonny are the perfect addition to our cast on this very special film,” Lawson said in a statement. “Common just brings so much emotional depth to his character, and Jonny is such a standout performer with the intensity he delivers. With both on board, we have no doubt the chemistry between our cast will resonate with audiences around the world.“

Neil Burger to helm Skydance’s sci-fi pic Summer Frost

As he preps to bring his latest sci-fi effort to audiences later this year, Neil Burger (Divergent) is ready to return to the genre as he has signed on to helm Summer Frost for Skydance and Temple Hill, according to Variety.

Based on the short story of the same name from Blake Crouch, the plot centers on a virtual reality game designer who finds her world flipped upside down when one of her non-player characters begins acting out of their programming, with an emotional relationship developing between the two as the designer closely examines her actions.

The project is set to be produced by Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner for Temple Hill alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, with Matt Grimm overseeing the project for the latter, which is being considered as priority development.

Crouch, whose writing credits span over 15 years, is best known for his work as the author of the Wayward Pines trilogy, which was adapted into the Fox series of the same name that ran for two seasons on the network before being cancelled. He also wrote the Letty Dobesh novella series, which was in turn adapted into the TNT drama Good Behavior starring Michelle Dockery, which also lasted only two seasons before being cancelled.

Burger found his rise to stardom with the critically acclaimed magician drama The Illusionist starring Edward Norton and Bradley Cooper-led sci-fi thriller Limitless before landing his biggest project yet with the 2014 big-screen adaptation of the Divergent franchise. Though he wouldn’t return for the sequels, he would remain on as executive producer and stepped behind the camera for the Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston-starring The Upside, the American remake of the Golden Globe-nominated French dramedy The Intouchables. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on the sci-fi actioner Voyagers starring Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan, which is currently slated for a November 25 release.

Ahead of the Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony-winning Broadway musical hitting the streaming service in July, Disney has taken to Twitter to share an exclusive clip from the opening number of Hamilton, “Alexander Hamilton.” The exclusive clip can be viewed below!

Originally set for a theatrical release on October 15, 2021, the filmed version of the original Broadway production will now be available for streaming on Friday, July 3.

The 10 Best Michael Keaton Batman Moments

The cape crusader’s appearances on the silver screen have made him a global icon. The campy serials have their place in history, but it is arguably Michael Keaton’s performance in Tim Burton’s 1989 film, Batman (order your copy here), that modernized the character. Keaton wasn’t just a good Batman but also a stellar Bruce Wayne: a perfect concoction of suave and grit. A lot of people grew up with Keaton’s Batman (the same way a lot of us grew up with Christian Bale’s); to this day, he is who they picture wearing the cape and cowl.

Comic books movies are more commonplace now than they were in 1989. However, without Burton’s Batman films we may never have gotten acclaimed outings like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Today’s shared universes — both on the big and small screen — are well aware of their roots. The Arrowverse has paid homage to the past and now the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe are set to explore the multiverse (enabling them to do this as well). The latest reports regarding the DCEU’s upcoming The Flash solo film, which will introduce the multiverse, says that Michael Keaton will be returning as Batman. This will honor both Keaton’s legacy and make fans swoon. To celebrate the best DCEU news since the Snyder Cut, let’s take a look back at some of Keaton’s best moments as Batman.

10. Oswald Cobblepot’s school of driving

In 1992’s Batman Returns (order your copy here), Danny DeVito’s Penguin gets the Batmobile’s blueprints. At one point in the film, Oswald gains complete control of the car and its security features (while Batman is in it). This is a rare moment where Batman feels like he’s in trouble. He’s noticeably panicked as the Penguin drives him around Gotham wreaking havoc. Fortunately, Batman regains control and evades the police. The cherry on top of this moment comes when the Batmobile transformations into the Batpod (a moment nodded at in The Dark Knight). In many ways, Keaton’s Batmobile set the cinematic standard.

9. Stealing the Joker’s balloons

In 1989’s Batman, Jack Nicholson’s Joker uses balloons to gas the citizens of Gotham City during the 200th Anniversary Parade. Nicholson’s Joker is iconic for many reasons. He’s worthy of the caped crusader. We rarely see this Joker flustered. There’s something so satisfying about seeing the Batwing drag away his balloons all while the Joker exclaims, “HE STOLE MY BALLOONS! Why didn’t somebody tell me that he had one of those things?” Right before shooting his henchman, Bob in the head.

8. We’re the same

At the end of Batman Returns Catwoman intends to kill Shreck. Batman tells her they should just take him to the police because they are not above the law. He begs Selina to come home with him, saying that “they’re the same, split, right down the middle” before unmasking himself. The dichotomy of the two characters is accentuated beautifully at this moment; a tragic reminder of how they are so similar yet so different (she does end up killing Shreck).

7. I gotta go to work

In the climax of Batman (right before the showdown with the Joker), Vicki Vale shows up at the Batcave. She asks him, “why won’t you let me in?” He tells her that she did get in. She then asks if they’ll try to love each other.

“I’d like to. But he’s out there right now, and I gotta go to work.”

The following suit-up sequence hits all the right notes. From the opening of the vault revealing the suit to storming off in the Batmobile.

6. Bat-Signal Opening

At the beginning of Batman Returns, Bruce Wayne is seen sitting in Wayne Manor. He appears bored and without a purpose. That is until the Bat-Signal lights up. We then see Michael Keaton rise and once again, don the cape and cowl. He is Batman.

5. Hi, I’m Bruce Wayne

At the beginning of Batman, Vicki Vale attends a fundraiser at Wayne Manor. While Vale and Alexander Knox explore the mansion and making fun of Bruce Wayne’s “bankroll,” the man of the hour casuals sneaks up behind the two. Amused, he continues to listen to their mockery before chiming in on the conversation. “Who are you?” asks Knox.

“Bruce Wayne.”

The moment cements Keaton as easily the most charismatic and suave Bruce Wayne ever to grace the silver screen. In a way, it’s just Keaton being Keaton.

4. Where does he get those wonderful toys?

This is probably the second most quoted line in Keaton’s run as Batman. While the Joker harasses Vicki Vale about Batman in the first film, the Dark Knight comes crashing through the ceiling, swoops up Vale, and zip lines her out of there. This prompts the Joker to ask, “where does he get those wonderful toys?”

3. Death of the Joker

Batman usually doesn’t kill, unless it’s Michael Keaton’s Batman, then we’re okay with it (he even throws a stick of dynamite at a henchman in Batman Returns). In the final showdown with Jack Napier AKA the Joker in Batman, the titular character spews the iconic villain’s line back at him, “you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?” He then punches him in the face and tells him “I’m gonna kill you.” He has reason to: Napier killed Bruce Wayne’s parents and, in turn, Batman threw Napier into a bat of acid. The created each other. In the end, their final showdown unmakes the Joker.

2. Bruce and Selina’s dance

Keaton’s Bruce Wayne has had the best love interests of any big-screen Batman. From Kim Basinger’s Vicki Vale to Michelle Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle. His relationship with Catwoman is a driving force behind Batman Returns. When they first meet, Catwoman licks Batman’s after he says, “mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it.” Her reply: “But a kiss can be even deadlier if you mean it,” is one of the film’s most iconic lines. Later on, Bruce and Selina dance at a charity ball. Selina tells Bruce that she plans on killing Max AKA Shreck. They then kiss beneath some more mistletoe, repeating the same lines from earlier in the film and revealing their secret identities to each other. The scene is done so well that The Dark Knight Rises pays homage to it when Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle dance again twenty years later.

1. I’m Batman

Bruce Wayne’s reveal as Batman in the 1989 film was tastefully replicated in 2005’s Batman Begins. However, instead of drug runners, Keaton’s Batman creeps up on a couple of thugs (after they rob an innocent family at gunpoint) discussing rumors of the “bat guy.” The sleazier one of two shoots Batman twice before he grabs the aggressive:

“I’m not going to kill you. I want you to do me a favor. I want you to tell all your friends about me.”

What are you!?

Rom-com Moonshot lands Lana Condor to lead

After breaking out in Netflix’s hit To All The Boys franchise, Lana Condor is ready to continue making her footprint in the rom-com world as the 23-year-old star has signed on to lead the upcoming HBO Max film Moonshot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which is being penned by Max Taxe, will be set in the future on Mars in which the red planet has been terraformed and colonized by humanity and sees two different college students joining forces to sneak aboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to reunite with their significant others. The X-Men prequel alum will star as Sophie, a buttoned-up college student who had a plan for her life but finds it uprooted when her boyfriend moves to Mars and she decides to chase after him.

The sci-fi rom-com is being directed by Chris Winterbauer in his solo feature debut and will be produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse, Love, Simon) and Sarah Schechter via Berlanti Productions alongside Jill McElroy and Jenna Sarkin for Entertainment 360, with Mike McGrath of Berlanti Productions executive producing.

Moonshot is one of four films Berlanti Productions currently has in development with WarnerMedia’s fresh streaming service, the first being the upcoming drama UnPregnant starring Haley Lu Richardson (Five Feet Apart) and Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria).

Condor has enjoyed a wave of success in the five years since making her acting debut in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, following it up with Peter Berg’s Patriots Day before landing her breakout role in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. She would go on to co-star in Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel and the short-lived Syfy dark comedy series Deadly Class, as well as the second installment in the To All the Boys franchise, with a third and potentially final installment currently in post-production.
