Harriet the Spy: Beanie Feldstein leads Apple TV+’s new animated series
According to The Wrap, Apple TV+ has officially given a series order to the first-ever animated series adaptation of author Louise Fitzhugh’s classic children’s novel Harriet the Spy. Golden Globe-nominated actress Beanie Feldstein has signed on to lend her voice to the titular character in her first animated project after starring in popular coming-of-age films such as Neighbors 2: Sorority Risings, Lady Bird, Booksmart and How to Build a Girl.
Joining Feldstein are 5-time Emmy winner Jane Lynch (Glee, Wreck-It Ralph) and Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls, Young Justice) who are voicing the roles of Harriet’s larger-than-life no-nonsense nanny named Ole Golly, and the leader of the popular girls at Harriet’s school named Marion Hawthorne, respectively.

Set in 1960s New York City, Harriet the Spy will follow the coming-of-age adventures of the irrepressible 11-year-old Harriet M. Welsch, who is described as a fiercely independent, adventurous, curious eleven-year-old girl. More than anything, Harriet wants to be a writer, and in order to be a good writer you need to know everything, and in order to know everything, you have to be a spy!

First published in 1964, the novel was followed by two book sequels titled The Long Secret and Sport. It was then first adapted into a film in 1996 which starred Michelle Trachtenberg and Rosie O’Donnell. After 14 years since the film adaptation’s theatrical release, the Disney Channel aired a television film titled Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars with Wizards of Waverly Place alum Jennifer Stone starring in the titular role.

Set to be animated by Titmouse Animation Studios, Harriet the Spy series will be written by Will McRobb, who is also set to executive produce along with The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford. Rehab Entertainment’s John W. Hyde and Terissa Kelton are also executive producing along with Wendy Moss-Klein and Nancy Steingard of 2 Friends Entertainment. In addition, Sidney Clifton has also boarded the project as a producer.
