Jason Bateman reuniting with Game Night’s Mark Perez for Superworld

With Ozark nearing its end at Netflix, star/producer/director Jason Bateman is looking to keep his upcoming slate full as he has signed on to help adapt Gus Krieger’s recently released Superworld, reuniting with Game Night scribe Mark Perez for the project at Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Released exclusively on Audible at the end of July, Superworld is set on Earth in 2038 in which the world is entirely populated with superpowered humans, save for Ignatius Lohman, a white-collar civilian whose father is General Lancelot Lohman of the defense agency PEERLESS and one of the most powerful men on the planet. He suddenly finds himself targeted by a megalomaniacal corporate overlord with the ability to neutralize any superpower and must team up with his father and their PEERLESS allies to save the United Nations of Earth.

The script for the forthcoming adaptation will be penned by Perez, who wrote the script for he 2018 sleeper hit Game Night which starred and was produced by Bateman and featured an ensemble cast including Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers) and LaMorne Morris. The film also marks the second in-development reunion for Bateman and Perez, with the latter penning the script for an untitled family action comedy at Netflix that the former will direct and produce and John Cena (Bumblebee) is set to star in.

In addition to directing the film, Bateman is also attached to produce the project via his Aggregate Films banner alongside David Kanter and Joff Okin of Anonymous Content. Bateman has been filling his upcoming slate with a number of major titles, including entering talks to direct the Simon Kinberg-penned heist film Here Comes the Flood at Netflix, signing on to direct the New Line Cinema thriller Shut In and attaching himself as producer to the Netflix adaptation of The Girls I’ve Been.
