After initially premiering on the WarnerMedia streaming service earlier this year, the Harry Potter franchise is making a move in streaming platforms as it is set to hit the freshly-debuted Peacock at NBCUniversal later this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The eight-film franchise initially became available for streaming in May on HBO Max, which makes sense given the original films, as well as the prequel spin-off series Fantastic Beasts, have all been produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, but they will now be shifting gears and heading to Peacock over the next six months.
“The Harry Potter franchise is beloved by people of all ages and represents the caliber of quality entertainment customers can expect to find on Peacock,” Peacock president of content acquisition and strategy Frances Manfredi said in a statement. “We’ve built a world-class collection of iconic movies and shows, and we will continue to expand the film library with treasured titles from NBCUniversal and beyond that will surprise and delight Peacock customers time and time again.”

The move does also make sense, given that WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal struck a widespread deal in 2016 for the television and digital rights to the wizarding franchise that extends through 2025, not to mention that the two have been in partnership for over a decade now for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, an expansion of the Universal Studios theme parks that began with Orlando in 2010 and followed with Japan in 2014 and Hollywood in 2016.

During World War II, reclusive writer Alice has her sequestered life upended when Frank, an evacuee from the London Blitz, is left in her care. Despite initially resolving to be rid of him, Alice finds herself and her emotions reawakened by him.
At one point in Summerland, a young man named Frank worries that his toy plane might crash when he throws it over a cliff. Alice, his crusty old caretaker, responds by explaining, “Life is not kind. Anguish is inevitable. Your heart will break. Your friends will die. You may even think about killing yourself. Planes crash, Frank. What matters is how you deal with it.”
That’s the movie in a nutshell. You see, Alice once endured heartbreak and decided to shut the door to her Southern England beach house order to eliminate any potential pain in the future. As such, she morphed into a crotchety spinster who spends her time writing fantasy novels and terrorizing the local townsfolk. In an early scene, she quite literally takes candy from a child.
Into her tightly wound grasp falls Frank, a London evacuee who bears more than his fair share of problems — his family is stuck dealing with WWII, after all. The relationship between Alice and Frank starts out icy. “Speak when you’re spoken to,” Alice snaps before berating the timid young man for telling a joke laced with factual errors.
Will this odd couple eventually come to terms with one another? Will Alice find room in her heart for Frank? Will Alice ever love again? Well, yes, actually. And quite early, in fact. Alice undergoes her obligatory character change less than thirty minutes into the movie, and then the real story begins.
You see, Summerland isn’t really about a boy and a woman discovering friendship. Well, at least that’s only part of the story. Instead, Jessica Swale’s film focuses on the difficulty of letting go of past pains and learning how to cope with life’s inescapable complications. There’s a moment when Alice must decide when to relay terrible news to Frank, which arrives on the kid’s birthday. Does she tell him right away and risk robbing Frank of a happy moment? Or does she allow him to cling to happiness for as long as possible? If it’s the latter, then how will she tell him tomorrow? How will he react? Will he ever learn to “deal” with the pain? Will he run and hide like Alice did so many years before?
Summerland works as an effective character study featuring strong performances from its cast and a wonderful score from Volker Bertelmann. Nothing about the plot or the film’s rather tidy resolution will blow anyone’s socks off but there are a number of quietly powerful moments and more than a few interesting surprises in Swale’s script to keep viewers engaged.
Make sure you bring a box of tissues … just in case.
To say much more would reveal the film’s secrets, which would ruin the fun. Suffice to say, Summerland carries a big heart and enough magic to make it a place worth visiting.

On the heels of his Amy Adams-starring adaptation of The Woman in the Window possibly moving to Netflix, Joe Wright’s upcoming musical adaptation of Cyrano featuring an ensemble cast led by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) has landed at MGM, according to Deadline.
RELATED: Joe Wright to Direct WWII Drama In the Garden of Beasts
Written by veteran theater artist Erica Schmidt, also Dinklage’s wife, the project is an adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac and the 2018 stage production of the musical, which was also written and directed by Schmidt and starred Dinklage in the titular role.
Alongside Dinklage, the film will see the return of Haley Bennett (The Devil All The Time) in the role of Roxanne from the stage production while the cast will feature the additions of Brian Tyree Henry (The Woman in the Window) and Ben Mendelsohn (Spies in Disguise).
Wright previously worked with Mendelsohn on the Oscar-winning war biopic Darkest Hour, in which he starred as King George VI, as well as Henry on The Woman in the Window and is married to Bennett, who recently made her executive producer debut on the acclaimed psychological thriller Swallow.

Ryan Reynolds has done it again. In another attempt to break the Internet, the versatile actor assumed the role of director/screenwriter for a day and dropped a 27-second cut of 2011’s Green Lantern on Twitter. The Reynolds Cut features none other than Tom Cruise himself as the green interstellar law enforcement officer (since the first part of the film is…vaguely reminiscent of Top Gun). It’s also a reference to fan rumors that Cruise has been approached to reboot the character.
“Here’s the secret Reynolds Cut of GL you all haven’t been waiting for,” the actor wrote. “In order to make it as great as possible we made some judicious cuts.”
You can watch the full Reynolds Cut of Green Lantern below.
Once again, Reynolds is having fun with superhero movie fans, especially those who fought for a Snyder Cut of Justice League to be released. Of course, he may also have some pebbles in his shoe about the adverse reaction Green Lantern had at the time when it debuted in theaters. The majority of critics and fans didn’t appreciate that movie due to the inconsistency of the story.
And yet, Green Lantern may return in the upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Probably not Reynolds’ one, but the director has teased a Green Lantern joining the rest of the team to face Darkseid.
The video also adds in the Green Lantern joke from Deadpool 2. Reynolds’ more popular superhero portrayal should make his official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner or later.
What do you think about the Reynolds Cut of Green Lantern? Let us know in the comment section below!

A few months after announcing development on the surefire award-worthy project, Sony’s TriStar Pictures has won the rights to the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody from screenwriter Anthony McCarten and tapped Stella Meghie (The Photograph) to direct, according to Deadline.
RELATED: I Wanna Dance With Somebody: Whitney Houston Biopic in the Works
The studio is already looking to fast-track the project as they have slated the film for a Thanksgiving 20222 release date, just in time for the Oscars season.
“Whitney just makes you want to get out of your seat and sing and dance!” TriStar Pictures head Nicole Brown said in a statement. “She is anthemic in every way. Anthony McCarten has bottled that up in his masterful screenplay bringing this beloved legend to life in a way we’ve never seen her – funny, exhilarating, aspirational, complex and incredibly human. Add to that Stella Meghie, a diehard fan, who is so gifted at telling beautiful, modern, feminine tales. With the guidance of Pat Houston, the legendary Clive Davis, Larry Mestel, and Denis O’Sullivan we have the absolute dream team to create the ultimate celebration of Whitney’s incredible life and musical achievements.”
After 7 studio albums, 6 Grammy wins, 9 world tours, and countless memorable hit songs later, Whitney Houston is still regarded as one of the most iconic and influential artists of all time. Even after her untimely death eight years ago at the age of 48, her legacy continues to live on through all of the old and new singers she had inspired by her immense talent and music. She had also earned the title of most awarded female artist of all time by the Guinness World Records and is still one of the best-selling music artists of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide.
“It is thrilling to have the opportunity to bring such an extraordinary global icon to life on the big screen,” Sony Motion Picture Group President Josh Greenstein said in a statement. “Musically-driven films have always held a special place in theaters and this remarkable story will help further our fierce commitment to the theatrical experience.”
Houston is also best known for her acting debut film, The Bodyguard starring alongside Kevin Costner which had become the second highest-grossing film worldwide in 1992 and its soundtrack also became the best-selling soundtrack album of all time with the song “I Will Always Love You.” Her other notable film credits include: Forest Whitaker’s 1995 romance film Waiting to Exhale; Penny Marshall’s The Preacher’s Wife opposite Denzel Washington; and the Disney musical TV film, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella which had earned 7 Emmy nominations.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody, a title derived from one of Houston’s iconic songs, will be produced by Grammy-winning producer Clive Davis, the one who had helped Houston signed her first record deal at Arista Records when she was 19 years old. The film is a co-production by The Whitney Houston Estate and Primary Wave. Pat Houston, the late singer’s former manager and sister-in-law, will also serve as a producer along with Primary Wave’s Larry Mester and Denis O’Sullivan.
Anthony McCarten, the writer behind the critically-acclaimed biopics such as The Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour, Bohemian Rhapsody and the upcoming Bee Gees biopic, will also be writing the script for the Whitney Houston biopic and will be producing through his Muse of Fire Productions banner.
