The exquisite Audrey Hepburn lights up the screen in her first starring role opposite the charismatic Gregory Peck in this funny, beautiful, and intoxicating romantic comedy. Ranked as the #4 greatest love story of all time by the American Film Institute, Roman Holiday earned 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won Best Actress for Hepburn, Best Costume Design for legendary designer Edith Head, and Best Writing for Dalton Trumbo.

Director William Wyler’s 1953 fairy tale was one of Hollywood’s first on-location motion pictures and memorably captures the bustling streets and iconic sites of Rome. Roman Holiday expresses the exhilaration of joyously breaking free as the lead character escapes her royal obligations against the backdrop of post-war Europe embracing long-awaited peace.

Screenwriter Dalton Trumbo was blacklisted for refusing to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee and his name was not included in the film’s original credits. In 1992 the Board of Governors of the Academy voted to finally credit Trumbo for the “Story Writing” Oscar and his widow received a statuette in 1993. In 2011, the WGA restored Trumbo’s name to the screenwriting credits. This is the first physical home entertainment release to correctly credit Dalton Trumbo with both the screenplay and story by credits both on packaging and the film itself.

The original negative was processed at a local film lab in Rome and was unfortunately badly scratched and damaged. The film had to be pieced back together, but the splices were so weak due to the damage that extensive amounts of tape had to be used to allow the negative to make it through a printing machine. Because of the fragile state of the negative, a Dupe Negative was made and then blown up a few thousandths of an inch to cover all the splice tape that held the original negative together.

RELATED: CS Interview: Adrian Lyne Looks Back on Fatal Attraction

In anticipation of this new Blu-ray release, the film was digitally restored using the Dupe Negative and a Fine Grain element to capture the best possible image. Every frame was reviewed, and the film received extensive clean up to remove thousands of scratches, bits of dirt, and other damage. Because audio elements to properly up-mix to 5.1 do not exist, the original mono track was remastered, and minor anomalies were corrected. The result is a film returned to its original vibrancy and beauty that remains true to director William Wyler’s vision.

The limited-edition Paramount Presents Blu-ray Disc is presented in collectible packaging that includes a foldout image of the film’s theatrical re-release poster, and an interior spread with key movie moments. Newly remastered from a 4K film transfer, the Roman Holiday Blu-ray also includes a new Filmmaker Focus with film historian Leonard Maltin, access to a Digital copy of the film, as well as previously released featurettes on Academy Award-winner Audrey Hepburn, Edith Head’s Oscar-winning* costumes, the blacklisting of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, and much more.

Bonus Features:
– Filmmaker Focus: Leonard Maltin on Roman Holiday
– Behind the Gates: Costumes
– Rome with a Princess
– Audrey Hepburn: The Paramount Years
– Dalton Trumbo: From A-List to Blacklist
– Paramount in the ’50s: Remembering Audrey

Henry Golding-led The Tiger’s Apprentice adds Sandra Oh & Michelle Yeoh

After landing rising star Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) to lead the animated adaptation, Paramount Animation’s The Tiger’s Apprentice has expanded its cast with the additions of Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Michelle Yeoh (Last Christmas), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Oh and Yeoh, the cast for the film has also expanded to include Brandon Soo Hoo (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live), Sherry Cola (Good Trouble) and Khen Hua Tan (Magnum P.I.). The film will mark the third collaboration between Yeoh and Golding after the two previously starred together in his breakout hit Crazy Rich Asians and the Paul Feig-helmed rom-com Last Christmas.

Oh, who recently nabbed an Emmy nomination for her performance in the BBC hit drama Killing Eve, has signed on to star as Mistral, a friend of the titular hero who is an exiled dragon living in San Francisco, while Yeoh’s character is being kept under wraps.

First published in 2003, The Tiger’s Apprentice tells the story of a boy named Tom Lee as he suddenly meets a shape-shifting talking tiger named Mr. Hu in San Franciso who takes Tom under his wing. From then on, Tom’s life is forever change when Mr. Hu introduces him to the magical world that includes an ancient phoenix, a dragon and a clan of evil-doers. The first novel was followed by two book sequels Tiger’s Blood and Tiger Magic.

The film adaptation will be the directorial film debut of Carlos Baena, who is known for his works on Wall-E and Toy Story 3. The screenplay is co-written by David Magee, Harry Cripps and Kyle Jarrow. It will be produced by Sandra Rabins and Jane Startz with Raman Hui and Kane Lee set as executive producers.

Joe spinoff film Snake Eyes which is currently slated to be released sometime this year.

Alden Ehrenreich made his debut as Han Solo in the Disney-owned franchise in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, taking over from Harrison Ford in a younger version of the titular character that explored his origins prior to 1977’s Star Wars. The production of the film is one of the most notoriously troubled in Hollywood, with Lucasfilm firing original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller over creative differences and replacing them with Ron Howard, though this would require major reshoots and rewrites that would balloon the production budget to an estimated $300 million.

Upon finally hitting theaters after rushing to make its May 2018 release date, Solo received generally mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, with plenty of praise being aimed at the performances from the cast, namely Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as a younger Lando Calrissian, as well as the visuals and action sequences, with the majority of the criticism being aimed at the story and screenplay. This mixed reception did lead to the film becoming the first box office failure in the four-decade old franchise, grossing a mere $393.2 million worldwide, losing Disney a reported $76.9 million, putting planned sequels in doubt.

RELATED: POLL RESULTS: How Should Solo Return to the Star Wars Universe?

Despite this initial mixed reception, the film has garnered something of a cult following in the years since its release, with the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen trending on Twitter multiple times and seeing users share their praise for the film and desire to see a continuation of its story, as well as spin-offs centered on Glover’s Lando and Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra.

Uncharted: Tom Holland says ‘filming is going well’ for live-action film

After years of development, director changes, pre-production setbacks, and a production shutdown, it seems like things are finally looking up for Sony Pictures’ long-awaited film adaptation of Uncharted with MCU star Tom Holland sharing a new filming update as production continues in Berlin. In a recent Instagram live, the 24-year-old actor revealed that filming is actually going really well which sets it on track for its July 16, 2021 release. Check out his full video below where he also shared a behind-the-scenes story about Spider-Man: Homecoming!

“Filming is going so well, it is going so well,” Holland said. “The film is, like, everything I ever dreamed it would be. You know, I don’t know if you guys played the games but I was such a huge fan of the games and it’s been going so well.”

He continued, “I do have the biggest bruise of all time though, on my leg, but it’s in a bit of a revealing area for Instagram Live – I think I would get shut down by Instagram, but yeah, it is a glorious bruise.”

Set to be directed by Zombieland and Venom director Ruben FleischerUncharted will be a prequel to the game series, taking its basis from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception wherein the young thief Nathan Drake (Holland) first encounters his partner Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) and in essence, sets up the events of the entire game franchise.

Joining Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are Academy Award-nominated actor Antonio Banderas (The Mask of ZorroPain and Glory), Grey’s Anatomy actress Sophia Ali and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle.

Based on the action-adventure video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune from Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive, the story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is escalated when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.

Uncharted is an Arad/Atlas Entertainment Production, with Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad producing. The film will serve as the first feature produced by PlayStation Productions.

Despite previous drafts by the likes of Mark Boal (The Hurt LockerZero Dark Thirty), Oscar nominee David O. Russell, Doctor Strange‘s Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, Safe House‘s David Guggenheim, and Joe Carnahan, the new draft of the screenplay is written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway.

Travis Knight became the sixth director to leave the project in its decade-long development cycle which began with Russell attached to direct followed by Neil Burger (Limitless), Seth Gordon (Baywatch), Shawn Levy (Free Guy), and Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane).

Sony Pictures Classics has released the official trailer for The Father, an upcoming drama starring Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes, The Silence of the Lambs, Westworld) Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown, Fleabag), and Imogen Poots (Vivarium, Green Room, 28 Weeks Later). You can check out the trailer now in the player below!

In The Father, Anthony is 80, mischievous, living defiantly alone and rejecting the carers that his daughter, Anne, encouragingly introduces. Yet help is also becoming a necessity for Anne; she can’t make daily visits anymore and Anthony’s grip on reality is unraveling. As we experience the ebb and flow of his memory, how much of his own identity and past can Anthony cling to? How does Anne cope as she grieves the loss of her father, while he still lives and breathes before her? The Father warmly embraces real life, through loving reflection upon the vibrant human condition; heart-breaking and uncompromisingly poignant – a movie that nestles in the truth of our own lives.

The movie is directed by Florian Zeller (Floride, The Other Woman) who co-wrote the screenplay alongside Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (Atonement, Dangerous Liaisons). Emmy nominee Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Emmy nominee Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle), and Olivia Williams (The Ghost Writer) also star in the drama.

Exclusive The Planters Trailer For 1091 Pictures’ New Dark Comedy

Exclusive The Planters Trailer For 1091 Pictures' New Dark Comedy

Exclusive The Planters Trailer For 1091 Pictures’ New Dark Comedy

ComingSoon.net is debuting the exclusive trailer for 1091 Pictures’ The Planters, a dark comedy written, directed, starring, and crewed by Alexandra Kotcheff and Hannah Leder. You can check out the trailer now in the player below!

RELATED: Exclusive Tar Trailer from 1091 Pictures’ New Horror Feature

The Planters follows Martha Plant (Kotcheff), an awkward telemarketer who’s down and out– sucking at her job and grieving her recently deceased parents. When she finds unlikely friendship in Sadie Mayflower (Leder), a bubbly vagrant with multiple personalities, Martha discovers having three friends in one may be more than she bargained for. The film’s cast is rounded out by New York theater actor Phil Parolisi, and cinema veteran Pepe Serna (Scarface, Downsizing) in supporting roles.

The film was produced by Kotcheff, Leder, and Jacqueline Beiro, who served as an off-set producer under Kotcheff’s banner Fire Tiger Films, a production company focused on auteur-driven films. 1091 Pictures acquired the film for a North American release. The debut feature film from the longtime friends and directing duo is planned to hit virtual theaters on October 9, followed by a rollout on digital and on-demand December 8.

“‘The Planters’ is a farcical love letter to our friendship, and we are over the moon to team up with 1091 Pictures for its release. Our film is really about a group of isolated, lonely people who find connection and meaning through one another. Living in the times we are in now, it feels more apropos than ever to be releasing it into the world,”said the filmmakers.

Kotcheff and Leder shot for 127 days entirely without an on-set crew and in isolation, save for trips to the local supermarket, a bike shop, and gas stations for lengthy drives to remote desert locations. Assuming all on-set roles, including but not limited to cinematography, production design, costumes, and hair & make-up, Kotcheff and Leder may have very well found a loophole in the filming concerns productions currently face in the Covid-19 landscape.

“Alexandra and Hannah are trailblazers when it comes to DIY filmmaking. With their debut feature Kotcheff and Leder have established their unique voice through stunning visuals and comedic storytelling. There isn’t anything else like this on the market and I am thrilled to work with such talented filmmakers,”added Lev Avery-Peck of 1091 Pictures.

After being named a recipient of the 2019 Women in Film Finishing Fund grant, The Planters swept up awards at nearly every film festival attended. Accolades include Raindance Film Festival’s Film of the Festival, Austin Film Festival’s Comedy Vanguard Jury and Audience Awards, Nashville Film Festival’s Best of the Fest Audience Award, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Song, San Francisco Independent Film Festival’s Narrative Feature Jury Prize, Omaha Film Festival Feature film Honorable Mention, Fargo Film Festival’s Best in Show Award for Best Directors, and Cleveland International Film Festival’s Honorable Mention for Originality and Vision in the New Direction Competition.

Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors Lands Major Role in Ant-Man 3

Lovecraft Country's Jonathan Majors Lands Major Role in Ant-Man 3

Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors lands major role in Ant-Man 3

According to Deadline, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors has signed on for a major role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming MCU film Ant-Man 3. He is reportedly set to take on the role of Marvel super-villain Kang the Conqueror.

RELATED: Peyton Reed Says Ant-Man 3 Will Be Much Bigger Than the First Two

Major’s notable film credits include: White Boy Rick, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Captive State and Da 5 Bloods. He was also recently cast in Netflix’s western film The Harder They Fall alongside Idris Elba, Lakeith Stanfield and Regina King.

Ant-Man 3 will again be directed by Peyton Reed with Rick and Morty scribe Jeff Loveness set to pen the screenplay. Presumably, both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will reprise their respective roles as Ant-Man and the Wasp. The pair recently lent their voices to the Avengers: Damage Control VR experience. Both characters were also a part of Avengers: Endgame, although Rudd’s Scott Lang had a bigger role. That film notably introduced Emma Fuhrmann as Scott’s now-teenage daughter, Cassie Lang.

In the comics, Cassie eventually gained size-changing powers of her own and took on the codenames Stature and Stinger. But if Reed wants to keep the film series’ naming motif, we would suggest Ant-Man, the Wasp and Giant-Girl as the title.

The Devil All The Time Review:

What comes around goes around is a theme that has been instrumental in storytelling since pretty much the dawn of time in everything from Star Wars to The Lion King to The Place Beyond the Pines and while most stories delving into this concept generally focus on one character’s journey, Donald Ray Pollock’s The Devil All The Time wove a multi-generational tale that captured this theme amongst a dozen others and Antonio Campos has brought the novel to life in compelling fashion.

In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) — converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family. Spanning the time between World War II and the Vietnam war, director Antonio Campos’ The Devil All The Time renders a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted.

The Southern Gothic genre is prime territory for everything from religious exploitations to familial revenge to even the most justified of souls becoming corrupt by the world around them and Campos takes full advantage of the visual style and grimy locations to put audiences in the world. There’s a real authenticity to the production design and scout locations that acts as a brilliant step into the past but also clearly worked for the stars as they all seamlessly slip into their various characters with ease and beautifully bring them to life.

The individual stories themselves do kind of vary more in their compelling qualities, with some running far too short despite being one of the more interesting to watch while others either drag on too long or are broken up in an effort to balance everyone’s tales, but with the threat of a too-large ensemble overstuffing the film, Campos does a mostly solid job to balance them all. It’s clear from the get-go that the Russell lineage is going to be the main course while the rest of the roster are side dishes, but aside from two fairly underdeveloped threads, the side players get just as much interesting play as Arvin and Willard’s families that feature slightly different tones without losing the consistent dread permeating from the overarching story.

Even when some of the storytelling begins to betray the morally complex messages, the performances nonetheless keep every frame of this film moving in fascinating fashion, with a few of the most notable being Holland in a decidedly darker and more mature role than mainstream audiences will be used to from him and Pattinson as the corrupt and quietly sinister preacher. Despite his fresh face belying the horrors his character faced in his younger years, Holland taps into the cold and damaged persona of Arvin so powerfully that is sure to remind viewers he is one of the best young dramatic actors currently working in Hollywood.

Pattinson has done nothing but amazing work since shedding the ball and chain that was the Twilight series and while The Lighthouse might still remain as my personal favorite performance from the 34-year-old star, his turn as the evil Rev. Preston Teagardin is a close rival to it. While I wish he could’ve been given more screen time to build up his nice and caring façade before the pin dropped and we see his darker side, he still taps into this two-face persona with such raw force and quietly exuberant energy that every time he’s on scene the film instantly becomes 20 times better than it had been in the minutes prior to his arrival.

The Devil All The Time is such a breathtakingly directed and powerfully performed Southern Gothic delight that even when the film feels as if it’s jumping between stories in jarring fashion and revisiting familiar tropes, it remains a compelling and intelligent tale.
