After helming a good portion of the short-lived but acclaimed Jim Carrey-starring Kidding at Showtime, Michel Gondry is getting back behind the camera in the film world for an adaptation of Jonathan Lethem’s As She Climbed Across the Table at Amazon Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

First published in February 1997, the sci-fi romantic novel centers on Alice Coombs, a particle physicist who has just created a black hole in the universe alongside her companions that they have called Lack, though they learn it has tastes. It absorbs a pomegranate and light bulbs, while refusing a bow tie, an ice axe and a scrambled duck egg. For Alice, this decision-making is the sign of a personality on the behalf of Lack while Philip Engstrand, Alice’s recently spurned boyfriend, believes it to be an unbeatable rival, finding it hard to compete against something without flaws.

The script for the adaptation is being penned by Joe Penhall, the creator of Netflix’s hit crime thriller Mindhunter who last penned the Michael Caine-starring British crime drama King of Thieves, with Chernin Entertainment set to produce while Raffi Adlan is attached to executive produce the project.

Many fans would rather pretend that Josh Trank’s critically-maligned Fantastic Four reboot never happened. Regardless, the movie’s well-documented shortcomings essentially guarantee that we’ll be talking about it for years to come. This is mainly because every so often, someone close to the film has something new to say about it. This week, that honor falls to Kate Mara, who starred in the reboot as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman. In a new sit-down with Collider, Mara alluded to the abusive treatment she experienced while working with Trank (via SuperHeroHype).
Mara was expanding on comments she made while speaking to Emmy Magazine last month. In that interview, she described her Fantastic Four experience as “horrible” and wished that she “responded differently to certain things.” She didn’t go into detail or mention Trank by name, but she did imply that sexism was involved somehow. She also explained how that experience has stayed with her for the last five years.
“I think that the thing that I always go back to on that one is that I think I should have followed my instincts more,” said Mara. “Like when my gut was telling me, ‘You probably shouldn’t let that slide, what that person just said.’ Or if you’re feeling a certain way about what an energy is like and how that is affecting your performance. You’re being paid to do a certain thing. And if something is in the way of that, you have the right to speak up and say, ‘I’m actually not able to do what I am here to do because of X, Y and Z.’”
RELATED: Free Guy & Death on the Nile Removed From December Release Schedule
Of course, Fantastic Four wasn’t a complete disaster for Mara. She later married her co-star, Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/The Thing), and the couple had their first child together last year. But her experience did remind her how important it is to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
“I think that speaking up is something that I think that we all probably learn it over and over again, to follow your instincts and if you’re feeling a certain thing that is uneasy or whatever, there’s a reason for it,” added Mara. “But, because it was such a big movie and again, usually, except in this case, when you’re in a big superhero movie they usually do incredibly well, like almost always. So even if it’s challenging, or this or that, or not everything’s perfect, it’s probably good for you to do it.”
What do you think of Mara’s latest remarks about her Fantastic Four experience? Let us know in the comment section below!

Oscar Isaac has been cast to play Moon Knight in Disney+’s upcoming series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with filming set to begin shortly. Casual moviegoers/non-comic-book enthusiasts (who haven’t payed attention to the latest in Keanu Reeves fan art) are probably asking themselves: “Who is Moon Knight?” Similarly to how Hawkeye is basically Green Arrow and Namor resembles Aquaman, Moon Knight is Marvel’s response to DC’s Bruce Wayne AKA Batman AKA THE Dark Knight. In fact, Moon Knight has drawn so many aesthetic comparisons to Batman -one of the most popular superheroes of all-time- that he gets lost in the cape crusader’s silhouette.
RELATED: Oscar Isaac in Talks to Lead Disney+’s Moon Knight Series!
Anyway, how do the two compare? Well, they’re both skilled hand-to-hand combatants and rich, using seemingly limitless wealth to fund their vigilante exploits, as well as create useful technology/gadgets. Where Batman has his Batmobile, grappling hook, utility belt and Batarangs, Moon Knight has his Mooncopter, Moonrangs and crescent-shaped glider. Moon Knight even has a rogues’ gallery, not unlike Batman’s. On top of all that they’re some of the “World’s Greatest Detectives.”
The characters’ key differences lie with their backstories/origins. As a young boy, Bruce famously witnesses his parents Thomas and Martha’s murder in the streets of Gotham, prompting his self-righteous war on crime using nothing but his mind, body and billions of dollars. His prowess as a crime fighter ultimately leads to his association with the Justice League… but you already know all this.
RELATED: Moon Knight: Egyptian Filmmaker Mohamed Diab to Helm MCU Series
Marvel’s Moon Knight, created in 1976 by Batman writer Doug Moench, has superpowers (point for Batman). Originally introduced as a villain in Werewolf by Night #32 but then recast as a hero (1976), Moon Knight became Marc Spector, a rabbi’s son who trades in being a boxer before joining the military. Years later, working as a mercenary, Marc has a near-death encounter with the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who gives Marc a second chance at life -superpowers and all- if the latter agrees to a symbiote-esque partnership. Moon Knight’s abilities, such as increased strength and speed, are dependent upon the lunar cycles. The height of his power is when the moon is full.
Using the wealth he accumulated as a mercenary, Marc creates two new secret identities: Steven Grant, a millionaire/businessman, and Jake Locksley, a taxicab driver. Living as Steven, Jake, and Moon Knight (largely ignoring Marc), taxes his psyche, leading to an identity crisis. The resulting schizophrenia becomes a staple of Moon Knight’s character, his mental illness making him erratic and unpredictable, especially when he fights.
RELATED: Moon Knight Series Adds The Witcher Writer Beau DeMayo
In the comics, Moon Knight goes on to become a member of Hawkeye’s West Coast Avengers (for a time) and remains one of Marvel’s most complex characters, also becoming an addict at one point. The physiological aspect of Moon Knight’s story will undoubtedly play heavily into the Disney+ series and his implementation into the MCU. With Isaac on board, it’s sure to be a good time, one that will free Moon Knight from Batman’s shadow once and for all.
But who would win in a fight? Batman. Batman always wins.

It’s been nearly a decade since Mark Wahlberg last saw Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his work in the sports drama The Fighter, but Solstice Studios believes it’s his time again as they have set his upcoming biographical drama Joe Bell for an awards season release of February 19, 2021, according to Variety.
RELATED: Focus Features Sets Justin Chon’s Blue Bayou for Summer 2021 Release
Joe Bell, previously titled Meet Joe Bell, tells the true story of Oregonian father Joe Bell (Wahlberg) who sets out on a walk across America to raise awareness for bullying after his 15-year-old son, Jadin (Reid Miller), commits suicide after being subjected to torment by his peers for being gay. Following its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it received generally mixed reviews from critics though praise was showered onto Miller’s performance, Solstice acquired the rights to the film for $20 million, with the studio working with the filmmakers and Wahlberg to develop a new cut of the film.
“The version of the film that was screened at Toronto was very promising, and after working with the filmmakers and Mark Wahlberg on a revised cut, we feel it has now reached its full potential,” Mark Gill, President and CEO of Solstice Studios, said in a statement. “Thanks to a lot of hard work as well as the addition of a new original end title song from legendary songwriter Diane Warren, we believe this film now has newfound power and emotional potency that substantially elevates its very important message. We are grateful to the filmmakers and cast for bringing us the opportunity to carry on the work Joe Bell started.”
The film hails from Academy-Award winning Brokeback Mountain screenwriters Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry, with Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) in the director’s chair; and will be produced by Daniela Taplin Lundberg (Honey Boy) of Stay Gold, Riva Marker and Jake Gyllenhaal of Nine Stories, Eva Maria Daniels of Vision Chaos, Cary Fukunaga of Parliament of Owls, Ryan Ahrens of Argent Pictures (Hacksaw Ridge), Wahlberg, and Stephen Levinson. Argent Pictures and Hercules Film are co-financing the film.
“This is a story that is very important to me personally,” Wahlberg said in a statement. “Joe Bell is a man who didn’t understand certain things about the world until he was faced with them in his own life — as a father. As a parent myself, I know how much fatherhood can change a man. This is a story told from a very personal point of view, from the heart of a man who walked from town to town to reach families just like his, delivering a message of tolerance to people who often didn’t want to hear it at first. It shows us how a series of small steps can add up and make a big difference for the people in this country who need to know they are loved and accepted.”
Jill Ahrens, Ben Renzo, Tony Parker, Derick Brooks, Michael Finley, and Drew Brees are executive producing for Argent Pictures. Good Joe Bell will also be executive produced by Ossan McMurtry along with Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis, Terry Dougas and Jean-Luc De Fanti for Hercules and Rhea Films.

In a recent League of Mayhem livestream appearance with The Nerd Queens, Zack Snyder has opened up about the future of Justice League beyond the HBO Max miniseries, confirming that he already has ideas for a potential sequel involving a story about Ray Porter’s Darkseid.
“If you said to any of the actors in the movie ‘well what happens in the movie’ or ‘what happens later’ or whatever for any movie. And they go ‘well I got the script and it’s cool and I kind of know this and-‘ so [Ray Porter] and I were talking about this and what’s cool or what’s the right response to some questions,” Snyder said. “It’s a fair question to ask me, you know, like what do I say to the world about, you know, what happens when Darkseid comes to Earth? Then what? You know, Is that a thing? And I think, listen, the truth is that, did I write and did I have and conceive a complete- do I know what happens when Darkseid… yes. I do know what happens. To say and to speculate about what that is and that that would be exciting, I think that’s a fine thing.”
During the same livestream, when a fan suggested that frequent collaborator Carla Gugino (Sucker Punch, Watchmen) would have been a great Catwoman for Ben Affleck’s version of Batman, Snyder immediately agreed by providing the backstory of how Gugino’s Selina Kyle would have fit into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“Probably I would say Carla’s Catwoman [is perfect],” Snyder said. “You would have to say, there’s a flashback to ten years ago, where [Batman and Catwoman] were a thing. And then he had to arrest her, I don’t know what happened, or he had to let her go, and it tweaked him. And now, who knows what she’s doing now, she’s running some sort of international antiquities or something, and he needs to retire, and they find each other. Yeah, I do think Carla is — yeah, she is good.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reportedly cost around $70 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision, as well as the additional photography. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut.
It was revealed at DC FanDome that the movie will release on HBO Max in 2021 by being broken up into four one-hour parts that will also be released as one four-hour film.
Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League, which features a screenplay from Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio, stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K.
