Adam Driver-led 65 adds Love and Monsters’ Ariana Greenblatt

Following her breakout roles in Disney+’s The One and Only Ivan, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Paramount’s Love and Monsters, Ariana Greenblatt has found another major step forward in the film world as she has signed on to co-star in the Adam Driver-led sci-fi thriller 65, according to Deadline.

65 will be written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the scribes behind A Quiet Place and duo behind Haunt, who will also produce the film through Beck/Woods banner. Further details about the film’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. This will also mark the directing duo’s latest collaboration with Sam Raimi after working together on one episode of Quibi’s 50 States of Fright, with the Evil Dead creator and Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy helmer attached to produce the project alongside Zainab Azizi and Debbie Liebling via their Raimi Productions banner.

Adam Driver gained worldwide recognition for performance as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. After receiving commercial success for Star Wars, he then earned critical acclaimed for his performances in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, and Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story which both gave him two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor respectively. He will next be seen in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel starring alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Greenblatt first rose to stardom with her small role as Young Gamora in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Disney Channel’s Stuck in the Middle before branching out with supporting roles in the well-received adaptation of The One and Only Ivan and the acclaimed Dylan O’Brien led apocalyptic rom-com Love and Monsters and will soon be seen in Netflix’s Awake alongside Gina Rodriguez (Carmen Sandiego), The Boss Baby: Family Business and Warner Bros.’ In the Heights.

Jennifer Garner & Zoe Saldana join Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project

Netflix has taken to Twitter to announce that Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner (Alias) and Marvel Cinematic Universe star Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy) have officially signed on to star opposite Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy) in director Shawn Levy’s forthcoming action-adventure film titled The Adam Project.

THE ADAM PROJECT, starring Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldana, is coming to Netflix! The action-adventure film will be directed by Shawn Levy.

Further details about their characters are still being kept under wraps but both actresses are no stranger to the action genre with Garner previously starring 2003’s Daredevil and 2018’s Peppermint as well as ABC’s spy thriller series Alias. Meanwhile, Zoe Saldana gained worldwide recognition for starring in some of the highest-grossing films including Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.

The Adam Project (formerly titled as Our Name is Adam) will reportedly follow a man who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self and together must encounter their late father, who is the same age as Reynolds. This marks the second collaboration between Reynolds and Levy, who previously worked together on the upcoming action-comedy Free Guy.

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) from a screenplay written by Jonathan Tropper and David Ellison. Reynolds and Levi will both produce the action-adventure film through their respective production banners Maximum Effort and 21 Laps Entertainment. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing for Skydance.

Skydance most recently worked with Netflix on the film adaptation of The Old Guard with Charlize Theron (F9: The Fast Saga) leading the cast, while also having Top Gun: Maverick and Snake Eyes coming up in its slate with Paramount Pictures and Amazon currently in negotiations to acquire the Michael B. Jordan-led Without Remorse.

Lionsgate lands Zachary Levi to lead The Unbreakable Boy

After already landing the Shazam! star to star as Super Bowl MVP Kurt Warner in the in-development biopic American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story, Lionsgate has tapped Zachary Levi to lead the cast for the upcoming drama The Unbreakable Boy.

Written and directed by Jon Gunn (I Still Believe), the story is based upon the true story and book of the same name from Scott M. LeRette with Susy Flory. The official logline for the film is as follows:

You’ve never met a kid like Austin. He’s not just one in a million… he’s one in four billion – the odds of being born with both a rare brittle-bone disease and autism. But what makes Austin truly unique is his joyous, funny, life-affirming worldview that transforms and unites everyone around him – especially his dad, Scott (Zachary Levi), who changes his life as he comes to see Austin not as the symbol of something broken, but the triumph of an indestructible spirit. The Erwin Brothers (I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe) are attached to produce the project alongside Kevin Downes via their Kingdom Story Company production banner and Jerilyn Esquibel and Peter Facinelli. Kingdom Story Company is also set to produce the Levi-led Kurt Warner biopic at Lionsgate, which will begin production sometime next year after production wraps on Unbreakable Boy.

In addition to the Warner biopic and Unbreakable Boy, Levi is currently prepping to reprise his role as the titular DC Comics hero in the highly-anticipated Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which is currently slated for a June 2, 2023 release by Warner Bros.

RLJE Films and Fangoria have unveiled the first trailer for the forthcoming reimagining of Stuart Gordon’s cult classic 1995 slasher pic Castle Freak from debuting director Tate Steinsiek (The Amazing Spider-Man, Face Off), which can be viewed in the player below!

After she’s permanently blinded in a tragic car accident, Rebecca’s receives some bizarre news: her long-lost-mother has recently passed away, leaving her their family’s ancestral castle. Traveling to the estate with a group of friends, Rebecca hopes it will be an opportunity for her to reconnect with a past she never knew—and a mother who seemingly left her behind. When mysterious happenings begin to occur and her friends begin to die, Rebecca must unravel her family’s mysterious history before she too falls prey to the Castle Freak.

The film is being written by Kathy Charles (The Kings of Maine) and helmed by Steinsiek, an award-winning special effects artist whose past works include Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, Scare Package, The Amazing Spider-Man and more! The original film, released in November 1995 direct-to-video, was co-written by Gordon and Dennis Paoli and directed by the former and was loosely inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s short stories “The Outsider” and “The Rats in the Walls” and was a modest critical success and garnered a large cult following in the years since its release.

The cast for the film includes Jake Horowitz (The Vast of Night), Chris Galust (Give Me Liberty), Kika Magalhaes, Emily Sweet (Syn), Elisha Pratt (True Detective) and Omar Brunson (Shadow Fighter), while original film star Barbara Crampton (From Beyond, Beyond the Gates) is set to produce the horror reimagining and Fabio Frizzi (The Beyond, Kill Bill) is attached as composer for the film’s score.

Castle Freak is set to debut on Shudder on December 3 followed by a digital HD and video-on-demand release on December 4!

Bruce Wayne Goes Back To the ’70s In Batman: Soul of the Dragon Trailer

Next year, director Sam Liu is sending Batman back in time to the ’70s in a new animated film, Batman: Soul of the Dragon. The story finds Bruce Wayne/Batman (David Giuntoli) drawn into a conspiracy alongside his former martial arts associates. Michael Jai White also stars in the movie as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger, with Mark Dacascos, and Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva.

IGN has debuted the first trailer for Batman: Soul of the Dragon, which shows Bruce and Richard as they reunite in the ’70s. Flashbacks also reveal how Bruce first encountered Richard, Ben, and Shiva under the tutelage of O-Sensei. Apparently, there’s also a connection to the past that forces the four of them to come back together. The trailer also appears to establish Kobra, and his international terrorist cult, as the primary threat.

“Set in the midst of the swinging 1970s, this Elseworlds adventure finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. The lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past. It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!”

Batman: Soul of the Dragon will hit digital on January 12, 2021, and 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray on January 26, 2021.

Drawn entirely from Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League’s personal collection of nearly 2,000 Mondo limited edition prints, the auction begins Sunday, November 29th in partnership with eMoviePoster.com. Spyglass Media’s Scream 5 Officially Wraps Filming

According to Fandango (via Bloody Disgusting), production on directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s highly-anticipated fifth installment in the Scream franchise has finally been completed after nearly two months of filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures have set Scream 5 for a theatrical release on January 14, 2022.

David Arquette became the first actor from the original franchise to sign on for the fifth film in the series, with Courteney Cox signing on at the end of July for the film and after word coming earlier this year that lead heroine Campbell was in talks to reprise her role of Sidney Prescott, it’s now finally official!

Alongside the returning vets, including Scream 4‘s Marley Shelton, other new cast members for the film include Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers) and Mikey Madison (Better Things), who join previously cast Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (Vida), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Mason Gooding (Booksmart) and Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why).

While plot details are currently scarce, it is being reported that the film will follow “a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

Scream 5 film is co-directed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay co-written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick(Ready or Not). It will be produced by Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt as well as Paul Neinstein and William Sherak for Spyglass, with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson executive producing with Radio Silence’s third member Chad Villella.

The first film, released in 1996, was a surprise smash upon its debut, helping to revive the horror genre for the decade and becoming the highest-grossing slasher movie of all-time until it was dethroned by last year’s Halloween reboot. The first’s success spawned a franchise that includes three sequels, the first of which remained equally as successful as the first while the previous two saw middling box office returns and mixed reviews.

After years of struggling to get another film off the ground, MTV picked up a series adaptation that became a cult hit, with two well-received seasons from fans before it was passed off to VH1 for its rebooted third season, which saw mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, but was a minor improvement in the ratings from the second season.

Scream 5 marks the second major horror franchise reboot Spyglass is working on, with the studio developing a remake of the Clive Barker cult horror classic Hellraiser, with David S. Goyer (Terminator: Dark Fate) attached to pen the script.

After six lifelong friends have a five year falling out, Bob (Duhamel), aka “The Bobfather”, reunites his pals for the Buddy Games, an insane competition of absurd physical and mental challenges with the chance to win a $150,000 pot. Now all bets are off, as the determined dudes fight, claw, and party for the big bucks.

In addition to Duhamel, the ensemble cast for the film includes Kevin Dillon (Entourage), Olivia Munn (The Predator; Love, Wedding, Repeat), Dan Bakkedahl (Space Force, Sword of Trust), James Roday (Psych, A Million Little Pieces), Dax Shepard (Bless This Mess, CHiPS) and Nick Swardson (The Wrong Missy, Grandma’s Boy).

Duhamel co-wrote the script with Bob Schwartz and Jude Weng (Fresh Off the Boat, Ghosted), with the latter also producing alongside Duhamel and Michael J. Luisi (Fighting With My Family, Killing Hasselhoff), while Jamie Elliott (Blood Brother, The Main Event) and Ralph E. Portillo (Armed Response, Fighting With My Family) are attached as co-producers and Richard Lowell (Rumble, The Marine) is executive producing.

Buddy Games is set to hit digital platforms and video-on-demand on November 24!

Zack Snyder’s Justice League Previews Original Design of Steppenwolf

A brand new still from HBO Max’s long-awaited Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been released, revealing Snyder’s original design for Ciarán Hinds’ villainous character Steppenwolf which features a lot of difference from the character’s design in Joss Whedon’s 2017 version. Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reportedly cost around $70 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision, as well as the additional photography. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut.

It was revealed at DC FanDome that the movie will release on HBO Max in 2021 by being broken up into four one-hour parts that will also be released as one four-hour film.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League, which features a screenplay from Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio, stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Released in November 2017, the film earned mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the action and performances from Gadot and Miller while criticizing every other aspect of the film, namely the inconsistent tone that many fault Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for after taking over directorial duties from Snyder. With a large budget of $300 million and a break-even point of $750 million, the film is considered a box office bomb having grossed only $658 million.

David Leitch’s Bullet Train adds Masi Oka to roster

Just when it seemed as though David Leitch’s in-development action thriller Bullet Train was packed with a star-studded lineup, the casting continues as Emmy-nominated Heroes alum Masi Oka has hopped aboard the project, according to Deadline.

Bullet Train will mark the eighth collaboration between Leitch (Hobbs & Shaw) and Pitt, who first worked together in 1999 on Fight Club on which Leitch worked as an uncredited stunt double for Pitt, followed by 2001’s The Mexican, Ocean’s Eleven and Spy Game, the latter two in which he doubled again for Pitt and helped coordinate the martial arts stunts on the Tony Scott-helmed film. Leitch would once again double for Pitt in 2004’s Troy and 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and would later reunite with the star in 2018’s Deadpool 2, in which Pitt cameoed as Vanisher and Leitch directed.

On top of directing, Leitch will supervise the script written by Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street). Plot details for the film are currently being kept under wraps, but it is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Isaka Kotaro. The cast for the film, led by Pitt, already includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Andrew Koji (Warrior), Joey King (The Lie), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2).

Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce the project via their company 87North along with Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven, Training Day, The Equalizer) and Kat Samick (The Equalizer, Southpaw, Infinite). Brittany Morrissey is the executive overseeing the film for Sony Pictures.

Leitch and McCormick recently signed a first-look deal at Universal and produced the action film Nobody, starring Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, which is expected to release in February 2021. The duo is also developing a biopic of Jutta Kleinschmidt, the first and only woman to win the brutal off-road endurance race known as The Dakar Rally, as well as the rights to her book My Victory at Dakar.
