Next holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise returns with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as can-do koala Buster Moon and his all-star cast of animal performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star—played by legendary music icon Bono, making his animated film debut—to join them.
Buster (Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey) and his cast have turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. But with no connections, Buster and his cast—including harried mother pig Rosita (Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy elephant Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, porcine provocateur extraordinaire Gunter (Nick Kroll)—have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by a ruthless mogul wolf named Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).
In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star lion rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife and hasn’t been seen since. As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage. What begins as Buster’s dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.

Disney has released a sneak peek for Peter Jackson’s forthcoming documentary film The Beatles: Get Back, providing a 5-minute special look at never-before-seen footage of the iconic band’s final moments together before their disbandment in 1970. Also featuring an introductory message by Jackson as he explains that the new montage video just aims to tease fans on what they can expect to see in the docufilm as this won’t be included in the final cut. Check out the video in the player below!
“We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat, so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film ‘The Beatles: Get Back.’ We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.” Jackson said.

Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back is a unique cinematic experience that takes audiences back in time to The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history. The film showcases the warmth, camaraderie and creative genius that defined the legacy of the iconic foursome. Shot in January 1969 and compiled from over 60 hours of unseen footage (filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg) and more than 150 hours of unheard audio, all of which has been brilliantly restored, the new documentary is the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years and charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album.
The film features – for the first time in its entirety – The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
Shot on January 30, 1969, The Beatles’ surprise rooftop concert marked the band’s first live performance in over two years and their final live set together. The footage captures interactions between the band members, reactions from fans and employees from nearby businesses, and comical attempts to stop the concert by two young London policemen responding to noise complaints.
An exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) presented by The Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd., The Beatles: Get Back is directed by Jackson, produced by Jackson, Clare Olssen and Jonathan Clyde, with Ken Kamins and Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones serving as executive producers. Jabez Olssen serves as the film’s editor, and the music is mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell.
The documentary film is currently set for a U.S. theatrical release on August 27, 2021.

Although the original Let It Be film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, and the accompanying album were filmed and recorded in January 1969, they were not released until May 1970, three weeks after The Beatles had officially broken up. The response to the film at the time by audiences and critics alike was strongly associated with that announcement. During the 15-month gap between the filming of Let It Be and its launch, The Beatles recorded and released their final studio album, Abbey Road, which came out in September 1969.
Shot on 16mm and blown up to 35mm, the 80-minute Let It Be movie was built around the three weeks of filming, including an edited version of the rooftop concert. The Grammy-winning Let It Be album topped the charts in the U.S. and the U.K.

New York, an alternate present: the quantum computing revolution has begun and investors are lining their pockets in the quantum trading market. Building the network, though, requires miles of infrastructure to be laid between huge magnetic cubes by “cablers” – unprotected gig workers who compete against robots to pull wires over rough terrain.
Queens delivery man Ray Tincelli (Dean Imperial) is skeptical of new technology, and the buy-in to start cabling is steep, but he struggles to support himself and his ailing younger brother, who suffers from a mysterious illness. So when Ray scores a shady permit, he believes their fortunes may have finally changed. What he doesn’t expect is to be pulled into a conspiracy involving hostile cablers, corporate greed, and the mysterious “Lapsis” who may have previously owned his permit. Called “a smart class-conscious sci-fi parable” by The Hollywood Reporter, Lapsis is a darkly comic and timely look at the gig economy and the failed utopian promises of big tech.

I have quite a few spaghetti westerns on my shelf for those occasions when I feel like watching something in that specific groove. I popped in the Arrow Blu-ray of 1972’s The Grand Duel, and was surprised by how awesome it is! It shouldn’t have been a surprise, since it had my favorite actor in the subgenre, Lee Van Cleef, and was directed by Giancarlo Santi, a former assistant director of Sergio Leone. This one follows an ex-Sheriff (Van Cleef) tracking down an energetic young outlaw named Philip Wermeer (Alberto Dentice, a dead-ringer for Peter Fonda), although it may not be to kill him and collect the bounty. There’s a great he catches him/he escapes back-and-forth that goes on until the final confrontation with the true baddies. If you love The Mandalorian but want to see the kind of film that inspired it, check this one out. It’s one of Quentin Tarantino’s favorites!

Stephen King’s sequel to his masterful horror story The Shining follows a grown-up Dan Torrance, struggling with the past, his gift, and his inherited alcoholism. It’s no mystery that King has a knack for creating some of the most compelling characters within and outside of the horror genre, and Doctor Sleep does an excellent job exploring the complicated life of Dan after the terrors he and his mother experienced when he was a young kid, as well as the complex relationship with his now late father. King’s exploration of Dan’s trauma and the alcoholism Dan turned to as a way to numb everything that haunts him is as gripping and engaging as the new characters that are introduced into his life who begin to give Dan hope, a reason to change, and a new outlook on his gifts.
As Dan finally seeks out sobriety after another traumatizing event, he finds himself needing to protect a young girl with similar powers from a cult known as the True Knot, who prey on children with these Shining powers in order to remain immortal. Not only is the novel a wonderful sequel to The Shining, but Mike Flanagan’s movie adaptation of Doctor Sleep pays tribute to the novel while utilizing a few elements from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 The Shining film to draw both words together in the highly underrated 2019 horror fantasy movie. Even if you have already seen the movie versions, I highly recommend taking the plunge into King’s written works revolving around Dan Torrance, because they are some of his absolute best.
For those who want a break from rewatching the fantastic Rick and Morty for the billionth time but are looking for the same style of humor and animation, I turn your attention towards Hulu’s Solar Opposites. Co-created by and starring R&M co-creator/star Justin Roiland, this sci-fi comedy series centered on a group of aliens taking refuge on Earth after the destruction of their planet is a fast-paced, thoughtful and outrageous gem with an incredible voice cast around Roiland, and with only 8 episodes currently available and two more seasons currently in the works, this is the perfect quick binge for fans of the Adult Swim hit.
Before director Peter Ramsey went on to co-direct Sony’s Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he first made his mark as an animated director with his feature-length directorial debut film Rise of the Guardians. The fantasy comedy film featured an all-star voice cast consisting of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Hugh Jackman, and Isla Fisher. Despite receiving a poor box office performance and mixed reviews, it was still given recognition as it earned a Golden Globe nomination and an Annie Award nomination, both for Best Animated Feature.
The film features the gathering of legendary fantasy figures, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Sandman. They must band together in order to stop Pitch Black from his evil plan of giving widespread nightmares to the children of the world in order to diminish their beliefs. Thus, making the Guardians weaker. Joining their fight for the children’s dreams is the newly chosen Guardian, Jack Frost, who acts as the Spirit of Winter but has a hard time remembering his previous life. This 2012 film is definitely an underrated holiday-themed movie that deserves more recognition for its charming and upbeat storytelling as well as its stunning visuals. What I like the most about this film is that it introduced and reinvented a great character like Jack Frost, who is sometimes perceived as an anti-hero, and had possibly made him everybody’s favorite. So, if you’re looking for something fun and heartwarming with your family during the holidays, I highly recommend you to check out or revisit this gem!
If you need a gift for the holiday season, check out Waxworks Records’ vinyl release of Danny Elfman’s Edward Scissorhands, featuring the 1990 motion picture soundtrack, 180 gram “ice sculpture blue with snow splatter” colored vinyl and new artwork by Ruiz Burgos. Soundtrack collectors will know full well that Edward Scissorhands ranks among Elfman’s finest achievements, what with its elegiac choir and haunting themes. “Ice Dance” is one of my favorite music cues, while the album as a whole makes for an entertaining (at times bizarre) listening experience. Of all the Tim Burton/Elfman collaborations, Scissorhands ranks, perhaps, second only to Batman and is a wondrous achievement.

French-American actress and filmmaker Anna Chazelle (Narrow, La La Land) is attached to direct The Trespassers, the feature adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s crime novel that was written in 1958 but was not published after the author’s death in 2013, according to Deadline.
RELATED: The Thief: Disney to Adapt Megan Whalen Turner’s YA Fantasy Novel
The story, adapted for the screen by Troy Blake, is told from the point of view of a young wife who becomes increasingly frustrated with her mild-mannered husband. When the husband refuses to confront some men who are illegally hunting on the couple’s remote homestead, his wife takes matters into her own hands.
The Trespassers will be produced by Leonard’s granddaughter Megan Freels Johnston through her Look At Me Films company, along with Nick Terry at Zero Gravity Management.
“The Trespassers is such a relevant story because whether it’s 1958 or today, many women can relate to the vulnerability of having to defend yourself against misogynistic men who have an expectation for getting what they want,” said Johnston.

Chazelle will serve as the first woman director to helm a movie adaptation of Leonard’s work. Other adaptations include Rum Punch, aka Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, James Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma, Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight, Barry Sonnenfeld’s Get Shorty, F. Gary Gray’s Be Cool, and John Frankenheimer’s 52 Pick-Up.
