Boogie Trailer Previews the Rise of an Asian-American Basketball Star
Focus Features has released the official trailer for author-chef Eddie Huang’s upcoming feature directorial debut titled Boogie, featuring a young Chinese-American man as he tries to achieve his NBA dreams while also dealing with the pressure of making his parents proud. Starring Taylor Takahashi and Taylour Paige, the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 5, 2021. Check out the video in the player below!

BOOGIE tells the coming-of-age story of Alfred “Boogie” Chin, a basketball phenom living in Queens, New York, who dreams of one day playing in the NBA. While his parents pressure him to focus on earning a scholarship to an elite college, Boogie must find a way to navigate a new girlfriend, high school, on-court rivals and the burden of expectation.
The film stars Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Pamelyn Chee, Mike Moh, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Love Simon), Alexa Mareka, Perry Yung, and late rapper Pop Smoke in his posthumous acting debut.

Boogie is written and directed by Eddie Huang, whose autobiography titled Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir was adapted into an ABC comedy series that ran on-air for six seasons from 2015 to 2020. The film is produced by Josh Bratman, Josh McLaughlin, and Michael Tadross.
