Epic Games’ ongoing Epic MegaGrants program is supporting the development of an animated feature titled Gilgamesh, based on the hero from ancient Mesopotamian mythology, according to Deadline.

The Epic MegaGrants program is teaming up with Latin American animation studio Hook Up as well as Argentinian firms DuermeVela and FilmSharks on the film. Gilgamesh will utilize Epic Game’s Unreal Engine technology.
The story follows the exploits and adventures of the king-turned-deity Gilgamesh who was immortalized in the epic poem that is “said to have influenced Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad.” The movie will explore the demigod’s quest for immortality and his rivalry then friendship with “wild man” Enkidu.
“It’s an honour to see Epic Games supporting Gilgamesh through the Epic MegaGrants program. Although animation has done an excellent job of entertaining through comedy and colorful creatures, there is also a huge appetite and opportunity to share cultural stories and tell larger-than-life mythical tales,” said FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud.

The project, with will have both English and Spanish versions, will be directed by Argentinian filmmaker Tomas Lipgot. Epic Games’ $100 million MegaGrants fund is reportedly investing in the protect; the fund is designed to support creators using Epic Games’ Unreal Technology, the real-time 3D suite of tools used for photoreal visuals and immersive experiences that has also been used on The Mandalorian and Westworld.

Following its premiere at the Salem Horror Fest last October, horror streaming platform Shudder has announced it has acquired the psychological thriller A Nightmare Wakes and has unveiled the first trailer and February premiere date for the title. The trailer can be viewed in the player below!

While composing her famous novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley descends into an opium-fueled fever dream while carrying on a torrid love affair with Percy Shelley. As she writes, the characters of her novel come to life and begin to plague her relationship with Percy. Before long, she must choose between true love and her literary masterpiece.
“Mary Shelley helped create two of the most popular genres in cinema, horror and science fiction,” Craig Engler, General Manager of Shudder, said in a statement. “Yet her story has too often fallen beneath the shadow of the iconic monster she created. With A Nightmare Wakes, Nora Unkel gives us an opportunity to see Mary in a new light, and to appreciate her accomplishments anew.”
“With her Creature and Creator, Mary Shelley created science fiction as an entire genre and transfixed 1800s Europe in ways never thought possible,” writer/director Nora Unkel said in a statement. “Shelley’s struggle with love, loss, abandonment by society and family, and her own sanity, had yet to be captured fully on-screen. She lived a colorful life of love, drugs, and freedom alongside some of the most celebrated artists of her day. With A Nightmare Wakes, I hope to leave Shudder members enraptured by Shelley’s chilling, intimate, and dark narrative, inspired by how much her story is, in fact, our own.”
Starring Alix Wilton Regan (The Wife), Giullian Yao Gioiello (Scream: The TV Series, Marvel’s Iron Fist), Philippe Bowgen (The Mick), as well as Lee Garrett, Claire Glassford, and Shannon Spangler. While the filmmakers took great pains to be as historically accurate as possible in the movie’s lighting and design, they chose to cast racially diverse actors and to produce A Nightmare Wakes with a majority female production crew.

Following Warner Bros. Pictures’ official confirmation of Wonka, Collider brings word that the studio is reportedly planning to enlist MCU star Tom Holland or Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet for the titular role in the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel.
Holland and Chalamet are two of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors today with Holland finding success after his breakout role as Spider-Man in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ blockbuster films. Meanwhile, Chalamet gained critical recognition for his performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name. Interestingly, this wasn’t actually the first time that the two young actors were both considered for a major role as Chalamet was reportedly also one of the many actors that were under consideration by Sony and Marvel for the role of Spider-Man.

Wonka, based on a script by Emmy nominee Simon Rich (An American Pickle, SNL), will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. Set to debut on March 17, 2023, the film will be directed by Paddington‘s Paul King with David Heyman set to produce.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been twice adapted for the big screen, including a hit 2005 version — also released by Warners — starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton, and most famously as 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder in his most iconic role.

No direct feature adaptation has been made of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (though elements of it were used in both films), and Dahl was developing a third Wonka book titled Charlie in the White House before he passed away in 1990.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jurassic World: Dominion director and co-writer Colin Trevorrow revealed that he crafted the upcoming dino flick to serve as a culmination of the entire franchise.
“To me, [Dominion] is a culmination of one story that’s been told,” Trevorrow said. “When you got to the end of the Jurassic Park trilogy, it may not have been as clear in what the complete story of those three movies was because they were a bit more episodic in the way that they were approached. But this trilogy is not that way. It’s very much a serialized story. What was important for me was, when you watch Dominion, you really feel like you are learning how much of a story that first set of movies was and how everything that happened in those movies actually informs what ultimately is able to happen in this. If kids who are born today are going to be presented with six Jurassic Park movies — you hope the parents will buy them the box set — you hope they are going to get to feel like they watch one long story.”
Trevorrow also revealed that the Netflix animated series, Camp Cretaceous, will continue to connect to the larger universe.
“It’s important to me, out of respect for the writers who are continuing to expand and create, to recognize [Camp Cretaceous] as clearly its own story and its own show,” Trevorrow said. “But this season — and if we’re granted further opportunities to tell the story that we have [in season 3] — will keep weaving in to the larger story and really inform some things, even in Dominion that will connect to discoveries made that I’m really excited about.”

Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow return to executive produce Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Dominion, with Trevorrow once again directing the next chapter in one of the biggest franchises in the history of cinema. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the filmmakers for this installment.
The upcoming threequel will be starring returning cast members from the first two Jurassic World films include Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith as well as original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Campbell Scott. It will also feature Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for You Loss), DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Dichen Lachman (Animal Kingdom, Altered Carbon), Scott Haze (Venom, Antlers).

Joining the Jurassic team for the first time is Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim Uprising, The Black Hole), who will craft the Jurassic World 3 screenplay with Trevorrow. They will work off a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, who together co-wrote Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Jurassic World: Dominion is currently set to debut in theaters on June 10, 2022.
All eight episodes of Camp Cretaceous Season 2 will release Jan. 22 on Netflix.

Marvel Entertainment has announced that they will be presenting a brand new documentary special for Disney+ titled Marvel’s Behind the Mask, which is scheduled to debut on Friday, February 12, 2021. Centering on the importance of a Superhero and villain’s identity, the special will feature fan-favorite heroes such as Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Black Panther and more.

Marvel’s Behind the Mask will feature guests from across Marvel’s 80-year legacy, including the writers and artists behind the rise of characters like Black Panther, Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain Marvel, and many other characters in the Marvel Universe, highlighting Marvel’s impact on pop culture and media.
The official synopsis for the documentary special reads: “From the very inception of comic books, secret identities have been an integral part of both Super Heroes and Villains leading “normal” lives. But it’s the characters beneath that resonate within us across generations of fans. Since the advent of the Marvel Age of Comics in the early 1960s, Marvel’s writers and artists have used the notion of identities to examine the evolving concept of equal rights. These legendary Marvel creations and stories have not only reflected the world outside our window – they have become a reflection of our own identities and who we truly are.”

Marvel fans rejoice! Chris Hemsworth took to Instagram to reveal that he expects to begin shooting Thor: Love and Thunder this week. You can check out his post below.
RELATED: Jon Watts to Helm New Fantastic Four at Marvel Studios!
Academy Award winner Matt Damon is reportedly joining the cast of Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated fourth Thor film after he was seen recently arriving in Australia with his family. The 50-year-old actor previously had a cameo role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok as he portrayed the play version of Loki. Should his casting be confirmed by the studio, it’s still unclear if Damon would be playing the same role or a much more important character.
It was previously reported that Chris Pratt has signed on to join Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder, with Vin Diesel also confirmed to appear in Taika Waititi’s upcoming MCU film. Their official casting shouldn’t actually come as a shock with Diesel previously teasing earlier this year that “Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Thor: Love and Thunder will be directed by Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) on a script co-written by him and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Someone Great), which will be the follow-up to Waititi’s wildly successful 2017 sequel Thor: Ragnarok. Oscar-winner Natalie Portman is set to return as Jane and will now be wielding the mighty Mjolnir. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will also return as Thor and Valkyrie, respectively. Academy Award winner Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy) will portray Gorr the God Butcher, the main antagonist in the film. The female Thor storyline is based on Jason Aaron’s run on “The Mighty Thor” in which a cancer-stricken Jane Foster takes up the mantle and powers of Thor.
Thor and Valkyrie were last seen in the highest-grossing film of all time Avengers: Endgame, with the god of thunder entrusting his responsibilities as the King of Asgard to Valkyrie as he joins the Guardians of the Galaxy on their next mission.

The marketing for Zack Snyder’s Justice League is about to go full throttle and to kick things off DC Shop has unveiled three t-shirts featuring Darkseid in all of his glory. This is seemingly the big bad’s final look once he matures from Uxas to the proper, armor-clad villain fans know and love from the comics. What do you think? Seems like a lot of marketing for a character who has little more than a cameo in the film … Anyways, you can check out the shirts below!

Justice League will be hitting HBO Max solely as a four-hour movie. It was originally revealed at DC FanDome that the movie will release on HBO Max in 2021 by being broken up into four one-hour parts that will also be released as one four-hour film, but Snyder’s new comments seem to indicate it will solely be released as the one-off film instead of the four-part series. In an informal Q&A with the director via the comments, Snyder also revealed that there will be no after-credits scenes, the release date is still set for March even as potential competition Godzilla vs. Kong just moved to the same month and its runtime is four hours prior to the credits.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reportedly cost around $70 million in order to properly finish the editing and visual effects of the director’s original vision, as well as the additional photography. The original post-production crew is also expected to return along with the cast members to record additional dialogue for the cut.
Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
