Homecoming Queen is reportedly inspired by the true story of when Haddish traveled to Africa thinking she was royalty, only to find out that that designation means something completely different there.
The film will be written by Raamla Mohamed, who previously worked as a writer on Scandal and was a co-executive producer on Little Fires Everywhere. On top of starring, Haddish will also be serving as a producer with Amblin Partners’ Holly Bario and Mia Maniscalco set to oversee the project.
