RLJE Films has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming home invasion thriller The Owners starring Maisie Williams (The New Mutants) as one of a group of friends who have the tables turned on them when they try to rob a house. The trailer can be viewed in the player below!

Based on the French graphic novel Une Nuit de Pleine Lune by Herrmann and Yves H, the story centers on a group of friends think they found the perfect easy score – an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the elderly couple that lives there comes home early the tables are suddenly turned. As a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues the would-be thieves are left to fight to save themselves from a nightmare they could never have imagined.

The cast for the film includes the Game of Thrones alum, Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit franchise, Doctor Who), Jake Curran (Spotless, Stardust), Ian Kenny (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Sing Street), Andrew Ellis (Teen Spirit, This Is England) and Rita Tushingham (The Pale Horse, Vera).

The adaptation has been scripted by Matthieu Gompel (The Dream Kids) and Julius Berg (The Forest, Mata Hari) in collaboration with Geoff Cox, with Berg making his directorial debut on the project.

Fifty years after publishing its first issue, “America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine” remains a seditious spirit in music and culture.

The documentary will feature interviews with Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, former Rolling Stone contributing editor and Almost Famous filmmaker Cameron Crowe, Alice Cooper, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Joan Jett, MC5’s Wayne Kramer, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, KISS’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and J. Lionsgate announces John Wick 5 & back-to-back productions!

With just three mainline films under its belt, the John Wick franchise is quickly on its way to becoming Lionsgate’s most-acclaimed and financially successful franchises of theirs yet and they’re looking to keep it going as John Wick 5 has officially been confirmed in a recent studio earnings call, according to Deadline.

During the earnings call, Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer initially confirmed the release date for the forth coming fourth installment in the hit action franchise and went on to confirm a fifth film is in the works as well as hopes to keep the cameras rolling immediately after production wraps on John Wick 4.

“We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022,” Feltheimer said in the call. “We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”

The Keanu Reeves-led series has been a major hit for Lionsgate thus far, grossing nearly $600 million at the global box office and receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, with each subsequent installment garnering larger praise than its predecessor. Its success has not only spawned the multiple sequels, but also a spin-off film Ballerina with Chapter 3 — Parabellum co-scribe Shay Hatten penning the script and Len Wiseman (Underworld) directing, as well as a Starz series centered on the underworld hotel The Continental, which is looking to debut sometime after the fourth film.

John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski recently confirmed that Reeves was only four weeks into shooting The Matrix 4 when COVID-19 concerns forced a shutdown. Reeves will have to complete his commitment to the Lana Wachowski sequel before moving on to John Wick Chapter 4.

John Wick 4 was originally set to release on the same day as The Matrix 4 on May 21, 2021, in what has been dubbed by fans as Keanu Day. We can only hope that The Matrix 4 will also relocate to May 27, 2022!

Walmart Drive-in to Feature E.T., Iron Giant & Other Classics

Grab your popcorn! Walmart is lifting the curtain on plans for the Walmart Drive-in, a drive-in movie theater experience, which is rolling into 160 Walmart stores across the country beginning this month, created in partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival.

Available for free to Walmart customers, the Walmart Drive-in will transform Walmart parking lots into outdoor cinemas from August 14 through October 21 with 320 showings of hit movies. Starting today at 5:00 p.m. ET, families can visit www.TheWalmartDriveIn.com to discover dates, store locations and the movies for each stop of the movie tour.

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” said Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s Chief Customer Officer. “The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”

Antebellum VOD release date announced, will skip theaters

Lionsgate announced today that the compelling, highly anticipated motion picture Antebellum, starring Janelle Monáe and written and directed by the advocacy filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, will premiere as a Premium On-Demand release, debuting on all platforms on September 18. The film will be released theatrically in select international markets. The announcement was made today by Joe Drake, Chairman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

With audience demand for content at an all-time high, Lionsgate’s versatile slate positions the studio to take advantage of different distribution strategies. Captain Marvel’s Ryan Fleck responds to Nia DaCosta signing

Yesterday brought the exciting news that on-the-rise writer/director Nia DaCosta (Candyman) had signed on to helm the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel and now original co-writer/co-director Ryan Fleck has taken to Twitter to respond to her hiring.

The first film followed Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she became one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set more than a decade prior to the events in 2008’s Iron Man, Captain Marvel was an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Released in March 2019, the film was a box office smash, grossing over $1.128 billion at the global box office on its estimated $175 million budget, becoming the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark, and garnered generally positive reviews from critics who praised the performances of the cast, namely that of Larson. After Larson returned to the role in the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer and President Kevin Feige announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con that a sequel was in development and slated for a July 8, 2022 release.

The first film also starred Samuel L. Jackson, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Annette Bening, and Jude Law. Since her feature writer/directorial debut with the 2018 crime thriller Little Woods, DaCosta has been a highly sought-after talent in Hollywood, following it up with the highly-anticipated Candyman reboot, which she co-wrote with producers Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Win Rosenfeld and is currently slated for an October 16 release.

Knight Rider: James Wan & Spyglass adapting classic 80s series into film

It’s been over 30 years since David Hasselhoff’s Knight Rider aired its series finale, and now Deadline brings word that James Wan (The Conjuring Universe, Aquaman) has officially partnered with Spyglass Media to develop a film reboot of the classic ’80s action series. Wan has signed on to produce along with Michael Clear through their Atomic Monster banner.

The Knight Rider film will reportedly take place during the present day and is set to maintain the anti-establishment tone of the original series. The project will be penned by former video game writer TJ Fixman, who wrote and developed the games Ratchet and Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man. Judson Scott will executive produce

Created by Glenn A. Larson, the original series ran on-air for four seasons from 1982-1986 on NBC. It starred a 30-year-old Hasselhoff as he portrayed the role of Michael Knight, a crime-fighting driver who is being assisted by a smart high-tech car called KITT, who was voiced by Emmy-winning veteran actor William Daniels (Boys Meets World). Due to its popularity, the series is being credited for launching Hasselhoff into stardom and had also gained a cult following. After its ran, it became a multimedia franchise that resulted into three short-lived spinoff series, merchandise and multiple video games.

Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs trailer starring Chloë Grace Moretz

Lionsgate has released the official trailer for the upcoming U.S. debut of South Korean directors Hong Sung-ho and Jang Moo-Hyun’s animated fantasy film titled Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, which gives a new twists on iconic German fairy tales such as Snow White and The Red Shoes. Featuring the voices of Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Claflin, the film will be having its U.S. digital release on Friday, September 18 and will also be arriving on Blu-ray and DVD on September 22. This outrageous fairy tale spoof starts as Snow White steals a pair of red shoes that transform her into a princess. Meanwhile, a witch’s curse turns seven brave princes into dwarfs, forcing them to seek out the princess, hoping for a kiss to break their spell. Together, they must face Snow White’s wicked stepmother – who will stop at nothing to get her precious shoes back – and, along the way, learn that true beauty lies within!

The voice cast of Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarf includes Moretz (The Addams Family) as Snow White, Sam Claflin (Hunger Games films) as Merlin, Gina Gershon (Riverdale) as Regina, Patrick Warburton (Family Guy, Emperor’s New Groove) as Magic Mirror and Jim Rash (Community) as Prince Average. It will also feature Simon Kassianides, Frederik Hamel, Nolan North, Frank Todaro, Ava Kolker, Asher Blinkoff and Juju Journey Brener.

The film is directed by Hong Sung-ho and Jang Moo-Hyun from a script Hong co-wrote with Ahn Woong-Sub. It had already been released last year in South Korea and Germany.
