Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.
Raya and the Last Dragon will be led by Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), who will be the first Southeast Asian to lead a Disney animated film. The titular role was originally set to be voiced by Cassie Steele (Rick and Morty), but the filmmakers and studio have chosen to adjust their vision and bring Tran in as the lead star, joining the previously cast Awkwafina (The Farewell), who is starring as a dragon in human form named Sisu.
In addition to Tran and Awkwafina, the cast for the film includes Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) as Raya’s nemesis, Namaari; Daniel Dae Kim (Hellboy) as Raya’s visionary father, Benja; Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) as Namaari’s powerful mother, Virana; Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) as Tong, a formidable giant; Izaac Wang as Boun, a 10-year-old entrepreneur; Thalia Tran as the mischievous toddler Little Noi; Alan Tudyk (Harley Quinn) as Tuk Tuk, Raya’s best friend and trusty steed; Lucille Soong (Fresh Off the Boat) as Dang Hu, the leader of the land of Talon; Patti Harrison (Shrill) as the chief of the Tail land; and Ross Butler (To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You) as chief of the Spine land.

Raya and the Last Dragon is co-directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6), Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting), Paul Briggs (Zootopia) and John Ripa from a script written by Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians) and Qui Nguyen.
The film will arrive in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on March 5.

The official synopsis for director James Gunn’s highly-anticipated DC film The Suicide Squad has finally been revealed, providing us with a detailed premise of the film that teases the new team’s dangerous mission in Corto Maltese. Starring Idris Elba, Jai Courtney, John Cena, and Harley Quinn, the film will hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021.

“Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.”
The Suicide Squad cast includes: John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Joel Kinnaman, Maylin Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Deigo Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Brage, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and Margot Robbie.
As we already know, Davis, Robbie, Courtney, and Kinnaman will all play the same roles they had in the 2016 film, reprising as Amanda Waller, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and Rick Flag, respectively. Michael Rooker will play Savant, Flula Borg will play Javelin, David Dastmalchian will play Polka Dot Man, Daniela Melchior will play Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba will play Bloodsport, Mayling NG will play Mongal, Peter Capaldi will play Thinker, Alice Braga will play Solsoria, Pete Davidson will play Blackguard, Natha Fillion will play TDK, Sean Gunn will play Weasel, John Cena will play Peace Maker and Steve Agee will play King Shark.

According to The Film Stage (via Production Weekly), Oscar nominee Yorgos Lanthimos is setting up his next project for Searchlight Pictures with the development of the film adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel titled Poor Things, which is a reimagination of the classic Frankenstein story. This project will also see Oscar winner Emma Stone reuniting with Lanthimos, who previously worked together on 2018’s The Favourite.

First published in 1992, Poor Things is a Victorian-set novel that will feature Emma Stone as Bella Baxter – a beautiful young erotomaniac brought back to life with the brain of an infant. It was also inspired by Mary Shelly’s classic gothic novel Frankenstein.
Pick up a copy of the novel here!
The film’s official synopsis reads: “Ostensibly the memoirs of late-19th-century Glasgow physician Archibald McCandless, the narrative follows the bizarre life of oversexed, volatile Bella Baxter, an emancipated woman, and a female Frankenstein. Bella is not her real name; as Victorian Blessington, she drowned herself to escape her abusive husband, but a surgeon removed the brain from the fetus she was carrying and placed it in her skull, resuscitating her. The revived Bella has the mental age of a child. Engaged to marry McCandless, she chloroforms him and runs off with a shady lawyer who takes her on a whirlwind adventure, hopping from Alexandria to Odessa to a Parisian brothel. As her brain matures, Bella develops a social conscience, but her rescheduled nuptials to Archie are cut short when she is recognized as Victoria by her lawful husband, Gen. Sir Aubrey Blessington.”
The script for the film is being adapted by Lanthimos and Tony McNamara, with whom he also previously worked on Lanthimos’ Oscar-nominated period drama and shared a Best Original Screenplay nomination with Deborah Davis. Production is scheduled to begin this year in the fall.

Besides The Favourite, Stone is also best known for her acclaimed performances in Easy A, Birdman, La La Land, and Battle of the Sexes. She will next be seen in Disney’s live-action film titled Cruella which centers around the iconic 101 Dalmatian villain Cruella de Vil.

While chatting with the Succession for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the hit horror-comedy Freaky, ComingSoon.net looked back with Alan Ruck at his work on Jan de Bont’s hit disaster adventure Twister for its 25th anniversary and its notoriously hectic production. Click here to digitally purchase Freaky!
RELATED: Exclusive: Richard Kelly Talks Donnie Darko Sequel & Rod Serling Biopic
Shot on location in Oklahoma, the technical-effects-heavy set of Twister was laden with problems across its five-months shoot, from various rewrites happening all the way through the first two weeks of production to weather and physical taxation on its actors and crew.
Ruck, who had previously worked with de Bont on his acclaimed directorial debut Speed two years prior, looks back fondly on the production in spite of some of these issues, even laughing at the recollection that the former cinematographer’s catchphrase on set throughout the shoot was “F***ing Hell Shit!”
“He was demanding, but everybody was so behind him, the whole crew was behind him because it was like, ‘Wow, one of us made it over the line, baby,” Ruck warmly recalled of the Keanu Reeves-starring production. “A cinematographer’s directing a picture, and so the camera crew was just outstanding and we had a lot of fun. We had like, 12 different buses. It was insane, we had the 105 freeway all to ourselves before it opened to the public and it was a thrilling job. So then, Twister comes along and Jan, I came in to read for it, but Jan had just decided that I was going to be in that movie and so, I’m happy to go, you know? He was under a lot of pressure from bigger people than himself on that picture and he had difficult times because he is a cinematographer and the original cinematographer on that was a guy named Don Burgess, who’s a wonderful, talented guy, but is not like Jan at all. Don does his own storyboards, he does his own shot lists, he plans everything out to the last detail. Jan is like, ‘Let’s shoot from the hip, baby.’ He’s like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ Sometimes he’ll jump in and say, ‘I’m going to operate. I’ll operate this shot.’ You know? That’s just who he is. So there was a clash of personalities, and that did not go well at all. At one point Jan pissed somebody off and Don just said, ‘That’s it.’ He took his whole crew back to LA.”
Click here to rent or purchase the Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt-led adventure blockbuster!
Following Burgess and his crew’s departure from the movie, Warner Bros. and de Bont hired frequent Clint Eastwood collaborator Jack Green to come in and finish up the shoot and while Ruck felt “it went well,” he did note that a lot of the physical effects and the work trying to imagine the titular storm at the size de Bont envisioned was “punishing.”
“We were out in the boiling sun in Oklahoma and in Iowa under clear blue skies, you know, pretending we were looking at horrific weather,” Ruck explained. “So we were just like, acting our asses off, and then when we saw the movie we’re like, ‘Oh, we all could’ve been bigger.’ Because Jan was always saying, ‘You guys are scared to death. You think you’re going to die. It’s the biggest tornado you’ve ever seen. You’re going to die.’ You know, and we would just be looking at a clear blue sky and we’d be like ‘Ah, ah, ah,’ just feeling like assholes because it’s like everything they teach you not to do in acting school. They had a machine that was a long chute down which they slid huge blocks of ice and at the bottom of the chute was a V8 engine that was attached to an enormous chopper blade. They cranked that thing up and they dropped the ice and it would chop the ice up into ice cubes and hurl it into the sky and they could shoot it wherever they wanted. They would pelt us with this stuff that was supposed to be hail, but they were ice cubes and they had a lot of velocity. When you get hit like on the top of your head or your shoulder blades, the top of your shoulders, your arms, your hands with pieces of ice that — I don’t know how fast they’re going but man they were moving — it just hurts. You know, it just sucks.
“Then, they had jet engines to create enormous wind, just like, taken off of airplanes and mounted on the back of a truck,” Ruck continued. “They would generate all this jet exhaust and then throw pieces of Styrofoam to look like wood and brick and we’d get pelted with that stuff. You know, it just sucked, but I was glad I did it. I was glad for the experience, it was a long job. I mean I think we started in April and I think we finished in August, we went to Iowa and there was this sequence called ‘the beautiful farm’ and there was this old farmhouse they found on a pig farm. They came in and they did Hollywood magic on it and they made it look like it was gorgeous. But the inside is basically rotten, it was just a façade and they planted like, an acre of corn, the Hollywood people, the crew people planted like full grown stalks of corn, right, because they’re all going to get ripped out in the final sequence with Bill and Helen. But the problem there was everything smelled like pig manure. Everything. I mean, the smell got into our clothes, it got into our campers. It got in. It was just bad, man. I mean, it was just like, moviemaking is not always sunglasses and red carpets. Sometimes it just hits you. [laughs] It’s a long time ago. I was a lot younger. I’m glad I did it, but I don’t think I’d want to do it again.”
Though Jurassic Park scribe Michael Crichton having written the original script and Steven Spielberg acting as a producer on the project via his Amblin Entertainment banner, Ruck notes he didn’t recall seeing either on the set of the production, but did see the latter while working on the pilot for the Michael J. Fox-led ABC sitcom Spin City.
“I believe he was there and then I saw him once – I’m trying to remember the name of this show I worked on about 2014, I worked on this show up in Canada that starred Lily Rabe,” Ruck said of the short-lived mystery drama The Whispers. “It was about aliens, but I can’t remember the name of it now. But it was under one of Spielberg’s companies and so, I met him up there. He’s a very, very nice guy, but I don’t remember him being on set during Twister. He might’ve been, but I don’t remember it.”
RELATED: Exclusive: Liam Neeson Reflects on Excalibur 40th Anniversary
Released in May 1996, Twister centered on estranged married couple Jo and Bill Harding (Paxton and Hunt) as they’re reunited while storm chasing during a sever tornado outbreak in Oklahoma as they make efforts to deploy a research device to help improve lead times on tornado warnings.
Alongside Paxton, Hunt and Ruck, the ensemble cast for the film included Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Phillip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), Jami Gertz (The Neighbors), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) and Jeremy Davies (Justified).
The film proved to be a massive hit upon its theatrical release, grossing over $495 million at the box office on its estimated $92 million budget and garnered two Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound, and would continue to find audiences over the past 25 years thanks to frequent showings on cable TV. A reboot is currently in the works at Universal Pictures with Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy) in talks to helm.

ComingSoon.net has gathered a few actors who should play Terry McGinnis in an inevitable adaptation of Batman Beyond. Check out our selections below!
RELATED: Reports of Michael Keaton Leading the DCEU Debunked… For Now
The news of Michael Keaton returning to the role of Batman (after nearly 3 decades) has rocked the internet for months. DCEU’s The Flash (2022) will piggyback off Multiverse hype permeating superhero cinema, paving the way for endless possibilities and adaptations. What we’ve all been waiting for: a live-action Batman Beyond film/series. Aside from Harley Quinn, the Batman Beyond animated series is one of the best things to come out of the DC Animated Universe. Not only did the series’ futuristic neo-Gotham captivate viewers but its cocky protagonist, Terry McGinnis—whose origin story (and genetic makeup *wink*) mirrored the OG—improved the cape crusader’s legacy. A can-wielding/retired Wayne being just as cool as the younger man who once slung batarangs.

Although its story has been acknowledged in comic-book canon, Batman Beyond has yet to make its way into the realm of live-action. Now, with a gray-haired Keaton prepared to mentor in the Bat cave, the thirst for a Batman Beyond adaptation can (and most likely will) be satisfied. But who will play his protégé? Terry voice actor Will Friedle has said that he’d like a newcomer who’s roughly 17 years of age (Terry’s age) to play the character. However, that’s not really how Hollywood works (even if it should). That said, let’s take a look at some actors who, despite being quite a bit older, could do the role justice.

How badly do you want to see a weathered Keaton bark orders at these actors? Who would you choose? Let us know in the comments below!
First off, Gallagher is 17 years old. He came to fame in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy as Number Five, a 58-years-old assassin stuck in a teenager’s body. That said, he’s exhibited the kind of intellect and wit usually associated with heroes much older. The idea of Gallagher playing a big-screen vigilante has become popular as of late. In particular, fans want to see him cast as Dick Grayson AKA Robin in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman trilogy…or Terry McGinnis? He may look a bit young but by the time filming were to start, he probably won’t. He already knows how to play a superhero and can fight like one too.
Lerman might be the most utilized and simultaneously underrated actor in Hollywood. Headlining the Percy Jackson films, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and starring alongside Brad Pitt (imagine him as an old Wayne) in Fury, Lerman plays a certain type. This does not mean he doesn’t possess the range to adapt Terry’s signature irreverence—compile that with his signature lost soul shtick and you have a perfect protege. Many online have actually promoted this casting for years and, even at nearly 30-years old, Lerman can still play young(er)—which can be said for everyone on this list.
22-year-old Buchanan is perhaps best known for playing Johnny Lawrence’s troubled son, Robbie, in Cobra Kai. Like Terry, Robbie has both daddy issues and a less-than-admirable track record with the law. On top of that, his signature scowl is fitting of the cape and cowl. With a karate background the likes of Myagi-Do and Cobra Kai, he’s fully equipped to dish out street justice. Buchanan has even said he’s totally down to play the role—just dye his hair black and he’ll do it justice.
Steve Harrington’s character arc in Stranger Things is arguably one of the most dynamic (and believable) shifts since Dragon Ball Z’s Vegeta. 28-year-old Keery can play conflicted high-school student and a baseball bat-wielding hero/role model. The actor’s star power is perfectly primed for the big screen and while altering his beloved haircut might be an issue for some, seeing Keey’s endearing quirk as Terry and more aggressive angst as Batman would be a welcome addition to the legacy of Batman Beyond.
Rumors have circulated in the past year that Sheridan was on Warner Bros.’ short-list for a live-action Batman Beyond. Known for Ready Player One and as Cyclops in X-Men Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, 24-year-old Sheridan is already familiar with playing a big-screen superhero. He’s also appropriately young and has become accustomed to playing the unlikely hero.
25-year-old Robinson has been around for a long time. However, recently he’s sprung onto the scene in Jurassic World, Everything, Everything, Love, Simon, and A Teacher. He’s perfected playing the conflicted teenager and brings and an undeniable amount of charisma to every role—he’s extraordinarily likable even when he’s the dick older brother. Having been around since the archaic days of sitcoms like Melissa & Joey, Robinson deserves to play a high-profile character like Terry McGinnis and he’s more than prepared for it.
29-year-old O’Brien has made a name for himself in films like American Assassin (in which he was trained by Keaton), Deepwater Horizon, The Maze Runner Trilogy, and more recently, Love and Monsters. He also starred as Stiles Stilinksi in MTV’s Teen Wolf series. His experience and range are both undervalued and utilized in Hollywood since his Maze Runner days—which sets him up as the perfect Terry in a Batman Beyond adaptation. Also, he looks the part…but so does everyone else here, especially…
The front runner (pretty much for everything) is Timothée Chalamet. The 25-year-old can pretty much play anything—from Call Me By Your Name and Beautiful Boy to The King and Little Women. Fans want him to play the Boy Wonder. He very well might. He might also play Terry McGinnis—he definitely looks young enough to play a teenager and is quick-witted enough to do right by Terry’s personality. Seeing the duality of him and Keaton on-screen together feels like a dream come true for Batman Beyond fans.
