After breaking out in Netflix’s hit To All The Boys franchise, Lana Condor is ready to continue making her footprint in the rom-com world as the 23-year-old star has signed on to lead the upcoming HBO Max film Moonshot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which is being penned by Max Taxe, will be set in the future on Mars in which the red planet has been terraformed and colonized by humanity and sees two different college students joining forces to sneak aboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to reunite with their significant others. The X-Men prequel alum will star as Sophie, a buttoned-up college student who had a plan for her life but finds it uprooted when her boyfriend moves to Mars and she decides to chase after him.
The sci-fi rom-com is being directed by Chris Winterbauer in his solo feature debut and will be produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse, Love, Simon) and Sarah Schechter via Berlanti Productions alongside Jill McElroy and Jenna Sarkin for Entertainment 360, with Mike McGrath of Berlanti Productions executive producing.
Moonshot is one of four films Berlanti Productions currently has in development with WarnerMedia’s fresh streaming service, the first being the upcoming drama UnPregnant starring Haley Lu Richardson (Five Feet Apart) and Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria).

Condor has enjoyed a wave of success in the five years since making her acting debut in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, following it up with Peter Berg’s Patriots Day before landing her breakout role in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. She would go on to co-star in Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel and the short-lived Syfy dark comedy series Deadly Class, as well as the second installment in the To All the Boys franchise, with a third and potentially final installment currently in post-production.

After garnering rave reviews from critics and audiences on the festival circuit for the past nine months, IFC Films has finally set a theatrical and VOD release date for the Czech black-and-white war drama The Painted Bird this July!
RELATED: Blithe Spirit: IFC Films Nabs Rights to Leslie Mann’s New Comedy Film
Based on the acclaimed Jerzy Kosiriski novel, The Painted Bird is a meticulous 35mm black and white evocation of wild, primitive Eastern Europe at the bloody close of World War II. The film follows the journey of The Boy, entrusted by his persecuted parents to an elderly foster mother. The old woman soon dies and the Boy is on his own, wandering through the countryside, from village to village, farmhouse to farmhouse. As he struggles for survival, The Boy suffers through extraordinary brutality meted out by the ignorant, superstitious peasants and he witnesses the terrifying violence of the efficient, ruthless soldiers, both Russian and German. In a defining scene, one of the peasants shows The Boy the flight of a captive bird, whom the man has painted and then released back into its own flock.
The bird is immediately ripped apart because it is different from its fellows. That lesson reinforces all The Boy already knows and will soon know better: difference is fatal. But there are rare moments of compassion: a German soldier spares The Boy, a priest intervenes on his behalf, and finally The Boy becomes the protégé of a Russian sniper, who is kind to the child, but ruthless with the enemy. And there are signs of love. The Boy is seduced by an older girl, finally re-discovering the comfort of intimacy, only to realize that he has been used. When he is miraculously reunited with his weakened father at the end of the war, The Boy is cold and impenetrable, hardened by his ordeal. Yet we can still glimpse something of the old, sensitive Boy behind the eyes of the new. Perhaps there is hope.
Written and directed by Václav Marhoul, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Stellan Skarsgård (Chernobyl), Harvey Keitel (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Barry Pepper (Crawl), Julian Sands (Banshee) and Udo Kier (Bacurau), as well as Petr Kotlár, Lech Dyblik, Jitka Cvancarová and Aleksey Kravchenko.

There might be some hope for the fans waiting for Henry Cavill to reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman in a new DC movie. Recently, several reports indicated that the actor was in talks to return as Superman. Now, Cavill has expressed his enthusiasm for playing Clark Kent’s alter-ego, hoping he can reprise the role in the future while talking with fellow actor Patrick Stewart in an interview with Variety.
“I’ve always been a fan of Superman,” he said. “With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation. When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that. Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come.”

The actor went on to discuss his life-changing role, revealing that he tries to improve himself by taking example from the alien’s behavior.
“He’s so good, he’s so kind, and when you start to compare yourself to him, because you’re playing him, you start to really look inwards,” he added. “You say, ‘Am I a good person? Can I be a good enough person to play Superman?’ And if you ever hear a whisper in there which is like, ‘Hmm, hold on a second. Maybe not,’ then you adjust it, and you make sure you are a better person.”
Cavill’s interest in the character is a good sign for the fans hoping to see him again wearing the Man of Steel’s red cape. Yet, it seems that the negotiations for his return are complicated. Perhaps it may be too premature to celebrate.
Would you like to see Henry Cavill as Superman again? Let us know in the comments section below.

Texas-based distributor Well Go USA and Patriot Pictures announced that they have set a July 17, 2020, theatrical release date for RZA’s anticipated crime thriller Cut Throat City. Originally slated to make its world premiere as an official selection at SXSW 2020, the feature will be one of the first films to open wide theatrically as theaters begin to reopen nationwide.
Well Go USA plans to release the film on 300 screens across the U.S. Directed by RZA and written by P.G. Cuschieri, Cut Throat City stars Demetrius Shipp Jr., Denzel Whitaker, Isaiah Washington, Kat Graham, Keean Johnson, Shameik Moore, and Tip T.I. Cut Throat City is the story of four boyhood friends in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward who return after Hurricane Katrina to find their homes decimated, with no jobs and no help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Out of options, they reluctantly turn to a local gangster, who offers them one shot at turning their situations around – by pulling off a dangerous heist in the heart of the city. When the job goes bad, the friends find themselves on the run, hunted by two relentless detectives and a neighborhood warlord who thinks they stole the heist money.
“What happens in the black community when men are dreaming of getting out, whether they’re using their music, their artistic expression, or academics, and yet, based on the system and based on natural disasters, those dreams and those aspirations turn into desperation? Well, this takes place in Cut Throat City. I’m proud to see this film come to fruition and to tell a story about black men living in a poor community trying to figure it out,” said RZA.
“Coming up on the 15th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, it’s more important than ever to amplify and celebrate black voices. We are proud to be working with RZA on this powerful film,” said Doris Pfardrescher, CEO of Well Go USA.
“RZA’s Zen and martial arts of the mind philosophy is inspiring. This story has attracted a cast that will show our audiences the aftermath of Katrina and its effects on the community of the lower ninth in New Orleans. We are proud to share the voices of the community and bring light to the problems they are still dealing with, even 15 years later,” added Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures.

The film is financed by Michael Mendelsohn’s Union Patriot Capital Management II, and produced by Patriot Pictures and Rumble Riot. XYZ Films serves as executive producers and worldwide sales.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a brand new Evil Dead film is on its way with Lee Cronin attached to helm the new installment. In a recent interview with Diabolique, franchise star and producer Bruce Campbell shared new details about the upcoming film, revealing that it will not only become a standalone film but it will also feature a whole new setting far from the previous films’ famous cabin in the woods location. Although he previously stated that the film will be called Evil Dead Now, he now confirms that the fifth installment will officially be titled as Evil Dead Rise.
“The official name is Evil Dead Rise,” Campbell said. “We’re getting a new draft in. I don’t think anything will happen until 2021. Full bore ahead, we’re very excited about it. A whole, new ballgame. No more cabin in the woods.”

The next installment to the Evil Dead films will be written and directed by The Hole In The Ground filmmaker Lee Cronin, who was handpicked by franchise creator Sam Raimi. Campbell previously confirmed that the upcoming film won’t have any ties to the previous films and might again feature a female lead.
The Evil Dead franchise began with 1981’s The Evil Dead and was followed by 1987’s Evil Dead II and 1993’s Army of Darkness which were all written and directed by Sam Raimi and centered on Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams. The original trilogy had amassed a massive cult following that spawn into video games, stage musicals, and a comedy horror series titled Ash vs. Evil Dead which ran on-air from 2015-2018. In 2013, the fourth installment to film franchise was introduced with Fede Alvarez’s 2013 soft reboot of Raimi’s 1981 film which now revolves around a female protagonist.

Lee Cronin is an Irish filmmaker who made his feature-length directorial debut last year with the supernatural horror film The Hole in the Ground. He also recently collaborated with Raimi as he directed an episode of Quibi’s horror anthology series 50 States of Fright.

Hans Zimmer is hard at work on the Dune score. How do we know? Because he’s apparently driving people bananas with his ideas.
“Right now I’m in the middle of making these sounds,” Zimmer told Variety. “I just have these ideas, and it’s like this every day. I’m doing all these experiments, and I have no idea if any of them will ever really end up in the movie. But we are so dedicated, trying to do something different, to do solid and honorable work, and do justice to the book.”

The Academy Award-winning composer then revealed that the project has rekindled his enthusiasm for his job — almost a bit too much it seems.
“I’m driving everybody crazy on Dune because I’m so full of ideas. And it’s Denis, you know? He lets me be part of this world. It’s totally and utterly inspiring, and it’s great people I get to work with – scrap the word ‘work,’ it’s great people I get to play with.”
The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in leading roles. The film will also feature Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).

Villeneuve is best known for directing Blade Runner 2049 as well as Sicario. Though Dune will likely resemble the former film more than the latter, both display the sort of experience directing arid, desolate locales that a fan would want in their Dune director, considering a sizable chunk of the story takes place on a desert planet.
Dune is currently set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
