Cherry trailer shows Tom Holland as a desperate man

After offering brief glimpses on the highly-anticipated crime drama, Apple has unveiled the first full trailer for the Russo Brothers-helmed Cherry starring Tom Holland (Avengers: Endgame) as a desperate bank robber. The trailer can be viewed below!

Cherry follows the wild journey of a disenfranchised young man from Ohio who meets the love of his life, only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions and challenging life circumstances. Inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name by Nico Walker, Cherry features Tom Holland in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo). When Cherry returns home a war hero, he battles the demons of undiagnosed PTSD and spirals into drug addiction, surrounding himself with a menagerie of depraved misfits. Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way. Brought to the screen in bold, gritty fashion by visionary directors Anthony and Joe Russo, Cherry is a darkly humorous, unflinching coming-of-age story of a man on a universal quest for purpose and human connection.

The movie is executive produced by Todd Makurath and Jake Aust from AGBO and The Hideaway Entertainment’s Kristy Maurer Grisham and Judd Payne.

The movie will arrive in select theaters on February 26, 2021, and globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 12, 2021.

Assisted Living: Cardi B Lands Lead Role in New Paramount Comedy Film

According to Variety, Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has officially signed on to star in Paramount Pictures‘ upcoming comedy film titled Assisted Living. This marks the Bodak Yellow singer’s first major film project as the lead since her acting debut in 2019’s Jennifer Lopez-led film Hustlers. She will also next be seen in Universal Pictures’ F9 which is set for a May 28, 2021 release.

Described as a raucous comedy with a tremendous heart, Assisted Living follows Cardi B’s Amber, a small-time crook who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. On the run from the cops and her former crew, she struggles to find anywhere to hide. Running out of options, Amber disguises herself as an elderly woman and hides out in the one place no one will look — her estranged grandmother’s nursing home.

The film is based on the original spec script written by Kay Oyegun which has been likened to classic comedies like Sister Act and Mrs. Doubtfire. Temple Hill and Stephen Love are serving as producers.

Armie Hammer exits Jennifer Lopez-co-led Shotgun Wedding

Almost as sudden as the arrival of the project and its road to production, Lionsgate’s action rom-com Shotgun Wedding has hit a road bump as star Armie Hammer (Death on the Nile) has exited the project and will be recast, according to Variety.

“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that,” Hammer said in a statement.

The timing of Hammers’ departure comes on the heels of a series of social media DMs detailing sexually controversial behavior allegedly from his account have been leaked. While the messages have yet to be verified as his, sources report that members of Hammer’s team have been working to drum up support for the actor around Hollywood and assure those that he did not send such messages.

Shotgun Wedding centers on Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom as they gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begin to get cold feet. If that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage and “Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones — if they don’t kill each other first.

The film will be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) from a screenplay co-written by Mark Hammer (Two Night Stand) and Liz Meriwether (Single Parents, Bless This Mess). The studio is eyeing a production start early this year.

Shotgun Wedding is set to be produced by Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman, who previously worked with Lionsgate for Wonder and are currently attached to produce Under Cover, Rabbids and White Bird: A Wonder Story at the studio. The duo will produce alongside Nuyorican Productions’ Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, with Alex Young executive producing for Mandeville, Courtney Baxter for Nuyorican and Ryan Reynolds & George Dewey.

Exclusive: Jennifer Connelly talks The Rocketeer 30th anniversary & sequel

Before becoming an Oscar winner with her performance in Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind or scoring acclaim for her turns in Dark City and Requiem for a Dream, Jennifer Connelly was exploring the world of superheroes with Disney’s adaptation of The Rocketeer and while chatting with the star for the forthcoming second season of Snowpiercer, ComingSoon.net looked back with her on the action cult classic and asked about her involvement in the in-development sequel.

Connelly, who starred in the original film as aspiring actress Jenny Blake, also romantic lead for Billy Campbell’s Cliff Secord, laughed when thinking back to the fact it’s already been 30 years since the Joe Johnston-helmed film hit theaters, but when asked about the follow-up the House of Mouse is finally working on, she revealed she wasn’t even aware of the existence of the project.

“I had no idea they were doing a sequel, and I can’t believe it’s also been 30 years, that’s crazy!” Connelly brightly said. “I thought that movie was a lot of fun and I had a lot of fun doing it, I won’t speak to what’s happening with the sequel, as I haven’t heard anything about it.”

Co-written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo and helmed by Johnston, the original film was set in 1938 Los Angeles, California and centered on stunt pilot Cliff who stumbles upon a hidden rocket-powered jet pack that he uses to fly without the need of an aircraft. His heroic deeds soon attract the attention of Howard Hughes and the FBI, who are hunting for the missing jet pack, as well as the Nazi operatives that stole it from Hughes.

Made on an estimated $40 million budget, the film was not a commercial hit, grossing just over $46 million domestically, but was a modest critical hit, earning positive reviews for its throwback to the pulpy serials of its story’s setting and its visual effects. A trilogy was initially envisioned for the material, but due to the underwhelming box office numbers, Disney scrapped the idea and continued to explore potential reboots and remakes in the decades that followed. The most recent news came last year that Azia Squire is penning the script for a sequel set six years after the original film and will center on a Black female pilot taking on the moniker as she searches for a missing Cliff and seeks to stop a corrupt scientist from stealing jetpack technology that could shift the balance of the Cold War.

Falling Trailer & Poster Released for Viggo Mortensen’s Directorial Debut

Quiver Distribution has released the official Falling trailer and poster for the upcoming drama starring, written, and directed by Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (Green Book, Captain Fantastic, Eastern Promises). You can check out the trailer now in the player below along with the new poster!

Falling follows John (Viggo Mortensen) who lives with his partner, Eric (Terry Chen), and their daughter, Mónica (Gabby Velis), in California, far from the traditional rural life he left behind years ago, while his conservative father, Willis (Lance Henriksen), lives alone on the isolated farm where John grew up. In the early stages of dementia, Willis is brought to John’s California home to help him relocate. Unfortunately, their best intentions ultimately run up against Willis’s adamant refusal to change his way of life in the slightest.

The movie also stars Lance Henriksen, Sverrir Gudnason, and Laura Linney. The project was produced by Daniel Bekerman, Chris Curling, and Mortensen, and was executive produced by Ethan Lazar, Peter Touche, and Philip Waley.

Mortensen’s directorial debut will debut in theaters, on Digital, and On Demand on February 5.

Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself Sets Hulu Premiere Date

Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself, a Hulu Original special, is set to premiere on the streamer on Friday, January 22. Written and created by DelGaudio, the special is directed by Frank Oz and executive produced by Stephen Colbert. You can check out the trailer in the player below along with the poster!

Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself is a new kind of lyric poem. It tells the story of a man fighting to see through the illusion of his own identity, only to discover that identity itself is an illusion. An intimate and powerful exploration of what it means to be and be seen, the film chronicles Derek DelGaudio’s attempt to answer one deceptively simple question, “Who am I?” His personal journey expands to a collective experience that forces us to confront the boundaries of our own identities.

The Hulu Original is produced by Glenn Kaino, Vanessa Lauren, and Jake Friedman.

Rami Malek & Zoe Saldana Join David O. Russell’s A-List Cast For Untitled Feature

According to Deadline, Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek and MCU star Zoe Saldana have officially signed on to join acclaimed filmmaker David O. Russell’s upcoming untitled feature project for New Regency which has already started its production. They will be joining a star-studded cast already comprised of Oscar winner Christian Bale, Oscar nominee Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman, Tenet), and Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed).

Russell will write and direct the project, which teams him with Bale for the third time after the two joined forces on The Fighter (for which Bale won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor) and American Hustle. Further details about the plot and characters are still being kept under wraps but it is said to based on Russell’s original idea.

The project will be produced by Arnon Milchan, Matthew Budman, and Anthony Katagas for New Regency.

Malek is best known for his acclaimed performance in the hit show Mr. Robot which gave him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama. The series only ran for four seasons from 2015 to 2019. He also starred in 2019’s Freddy Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody which earned Malek an Oscar for Best Actor. He will next be seen in the upcoming Bond film No Time to Die.

Saldana gained worldwide recognition for starring in blockbuster films such as James Cameron’s Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, and Avengers: Endgame. She will next be seen in Netflix’s sci-fi comedy The Adam Project starring alongside Jennifer Garner and Ryan Reynolds.

More than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story Trailer Remembers the Life of an Icon

The official trailer for the upcoming documentary film titled More than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story has been released, giving fans an in-depth look at the life of the late actor-comedian before and after becoming the iconic Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid films. The docufilm will arrive on VOD on February 5, 2021, and is currently available for pre-order on iTunes. Check out the trailer in the player below!

The Oscar-nominated actor best known for his role of Mr. Miyagi, left behind a painfully revealing autobiographical record of his much-too-brief time here on earth. Tracing his journey from being bed-bound as a boy to the bright lights and discrimination in Hollywood. Deep inside that sweet, generous, multi-talented performer seethed an army of demons, that even alcohol and drugs couldn’t mask.

Directed by Kevin Derek, More than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story will include archival interviews featuring Morita along with new interviews with his co-stars including The Karate Kid co-stars Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, and Martin Kove. The docufilm will also feature Henry Winkler, James Hong, Sean Kanan, Marion ross, Esai Morales, Tommy Chong, Don Most, Anson Williams, and more.

Pat Morita started out as a Japanese-American comedian who appeared in numerous 1970s sitcoms including M*A*S*H, Happy Days, Mr. T and Tina, and Sanford and Son. He found worldwide recognition for his acclaimed performance as Mr. Miyagi in 1984’s The Karate Kid which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. At the age of 73, Morita passed away in 2005 due to kidney failure.
