After scoring rave reviews from critics and audiences and leading a sluggish box office for the past two weeks, Universal Pictures has revealed that Christopher Landon’s horror-comedy Freaky is coming to PVOD platforms beginning December 4!

From the deliciously debased mind of writer-director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, the Paranormal Activity franchise) comes a pitch-black horror-comedy about a slasher, a senior, and the brutal truth about high school.
In Freaky (formerly titled as Body Swap), Seventeen-year-old Millie Kessler is just trying to survive the bloodthirsty halls of Blissfield High and the cruelty of the popular crowd. But when she becomes the newest target of The Butcher, her town’s infamous serial killer, her senior year becomes the least of her worries. When The Butcher’s mystical ancient dagger causes him and Millie to wake up in each other’s bodies, Millie learns that she has just 24 hours to get her body back before the switch becomes permanent and she’s trapped in the form of a middle-aged maniac forever. The only problem is she now looks like a towering psychopath who’s the target of a city-wide manhunt while The Butcher looks like her and has brought his appetite for carnage to Homecoming. With some help from her friends—ultra-woke Nyla, ultra-fabulous Joshua and her crush Booker —Millie races against the clock to reverse the curse while The Butcher discovers that having a female teen body is the perfect cover for a little Homecoming killing spree.

Freaky will be led by Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, The Society, Blockers) and Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, True Detective). It will also feature Celeste O’Connor (Selah and the Spades), Misha Osherovich (The Goldfinch), Uriah Shelton (Enter the Warriors Gate) Alan Ruck (Succession), Katie Finneran (Why Women Kill), and Dana Drori (High Fidelity series).
The film is directed by Christopher Landon, who co-wrote the script with Michael Kennedy. It is produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum with Couper Samuelson and Jeanette Volturno set as executive producers.

The film, written by former stuntman-turned-action screenwriter Madison Turner, centers on Xavier Rhodes (Mackie) as he brings his teenage daughter to Nigeria to find a cure for the rare genetic condition that he’s passed on to her, but when his daughter is kidnapped, Rhodes goes on a rampage through the criminal underworld to find her before it’s too late, testing his powers to the limit.
In addition to starring, Mackie will produce the project alongside Jason Michael Berman for Mandalay Pictures, who have worked with Netflix for the last three years distributing their non-theatrical titles including the drama Burning Sands, horror-comedy Little Evil, sports drama Amateur, sci-fi action pic Io, which also starred Mackie, Alfre Woodard-led drama Juanita, comedy Otherhood, dramedy Uncorked and action thriller The Last Days of American Crime.

A couple of months after expanding its star-studded ensemble with the addition of Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), the Nicolas Cage-starring action dramedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has found another big star in the form of Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother).
RELATED: Tiffany Haddish Joins Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The Unbearable Weight of a Massive Talent will see Nicolas Cage portray a version of himself desperate to get a role in a new Tarantino movie while also struggling with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter. As he makes his way through life, he also talks to an egotistical version of himself from the ’90s who railroads him for making bad movies and not being the same star he was at the time, now dealing with a mountain of death and making an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire that is a huge fan.
In a long-standing battle against one of the largest criminal organizations in Europe, Haddish plays the role of Vivian, an eccentric rogue government agent who forces superstar Nicolas Cage to go undercover in a crazy, offbook, last ditch effort to bring them down for good. Harris is set to star in the film as Cage’s talent agent.
While bonding with the man, who hopes to show Cage a script he’s been working on, the actor learns from the CIA that the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a presidential nominee and is recruited to get intelligence. The predicament gets worse when the billionaire brings Cage’s daughter and ex-wife for a reconciliation and he must take on the role of a lifetime to save their lives.
In addition to Cage and Haddish, the cast for the film includes Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Emmy nominee Sharon Horgan (Game Night, Catastrophe). The film is eyeing a fall production date and a 2021 release date.
RELATED: The Unbearable Weight of a Massive Talent to Recreate Scenes from Nicolas Cage’s Movies
The Unbearable Weight of a Massive Talent will be directed by Tom Gormican, who co-wrote the script with Kevin Etten. The film will executive produced by Etten and Kevin Turren along with Cage and Mike Nilon through their Saturn Films banner.
The script is set to include nods to various Cage works including Leaving Las Vegas, Face-Off and Gone in 60 Seconds and reportedly has tones of Adaptation, which Cage starred in, as well as Jean-Claude Van Damme’s JCVD and the Hollywood caper Get Shorty.
