Just a week after partnering with director Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) for a new film and TV franchise of the iconic Hasbro characters, eOne has tapped Bryan Edward Hill (Titans) to pen a new Power Rangers film, according to Deadline. The comic book author and screenwriter took to Twitter to confirm the news and express his excitement about the project.

I’m INCREDIBLY excited about this. I LOVED Jonathan’s work before I came aboard this, and when I heard his ideas I immediately got stoked.
This is one of those “Wow I get to do this!” projects.
And you guys supporting my work helped me get it.
Thank you. Appreciate you. https://t.co/HggjaQn9XH

Last week brought the news that the rights to the Power Rangers franchise had shifted from Paramount Pictures to the Hasbro-owned eOne, with Entwistle also making the jump to shepherd both a film and TV franchise that would go hand-in-hand with one another. Paramount had tapped Entwistle for a big-screen reboot after the 2017 box office failure at Lionsgate but the studio lost the rights to the series after Hasbro acquired production banner eOne in late 2019 and the company shifted to produce a new adaptation themselves with a more branched-out plan.
“This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans,” Entwistle previously said in a statement. “We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success.”

Co-written by Dugan, Eileen Conn (Mad About You) and Larry Miller (Second Act), Love, Weddings & Other Disasters is a multi-story romantic comedy about the people who work on weddings to create the perfect day for a loving couple – while their own relationships are outlandish, odd, crazy and far from perfect.
The romantic comedy stars Keaton, Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Maggie Grace (Taken franchise, Fear the Walking Dead), Jesse McCartney (Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, Young Justice), Chandra West (I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, White Noise), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel: The Series, Terminator: Dark Fate), Andrew Bachelor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, When We First Met) and Veronica Ferres (Salt and Fire). While chatting with the writer/director for his latest project, the fantasy action pic Mortal, ComingSoon.net took a walk down future lane with André Øvredal to discuss his work developing the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sequel and adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk!
RELATED: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Sequel a Go with André Øvredal Returning!
After spending over a decade in the lap of frequent King adapter Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Shawshank Redemption), the rights to the 1979 dystopian novel finally lapsed and were acquired by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and New Line Cinema, with Øvredal being tapped for the the director’s chair in May 2019. While he’s uncertain as to why it’s taken so long to get the project off the ground, he’s excited for what’s to come, even if “COVID is just wrecking everything” trying to into production but promising “it’s alive and well and moving along.”
“I guess in the end, he just didn’t choose to do it, I actually don’t even know if he ever had a script,” Øvredal pondered. “This script was written on spec by James Vanderbilt when he did not even have the rights to it, he just wrote it out of pure love for the book and in the end, suddenly the rights were open and he was able to go to King with his script and say, ‘Can we do this?’ Then New Line bought it and somehow I got involved [laughs].
The story takes place in a dystopian future, where 100 boys are selected for a long walk. They have to maintain speeds of 4 miles an hour, and receive fewer than three warnings an hour. Break these rules, and they’re shot dead. The last one standing, however, gets whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Despite the high stakes, the boys form an unlikely camaraderie along their journey. James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) wrote the screenplay and is producing alongside Bradley Fischer and William Sherak.

In looking at the development process for the forthcoming horror sequel, Øvredal confirmed that the timing for the project is “a little more relaxed with the way the world is right now,” but confirmed that the team is “making headways” and keeping his lips sealed on just which novel spirits we may see in the next film.
“We have a great new story and some fun, scary stories implemented in a good way, I’m very excited about the sequel,” Øvredal brightly expressed. “I shouldn’t [say] and I can’t really, you never know what you can and can not say about these things, it’s hard to talk about at this stage. I know it’s been out there in the public already, so I can’t give away too much [chuckles]. I’m part of the process of developing, not the writing because it’s Dan and Kevin, who wrote the first one, but I’m definitely part of the development process on this one. As you indicated, the original script was developed for Guillermo to direct originally.”
Though the plot for the sequel is being kept under wraps, it’s been confirmed that Dan and Kevin Hageman will also be returning to pen the script based on a story idea from producer Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), who produced the predecessor and also helped craft the story alongside Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (The Collection).
The films are based on a trilogy of children’s horror books first published in 1981 that featured over two dozen horror stories written by Alvin Schwartz and accompanied by chilling illustrations from Stephen Gammell, with the first film adapting “The Big Toe,” “Me Tie Dough-ty Walker!” from the first book and “Harold,” “The Dream” and “The Red Spot” from the third novel.

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time — stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark starred Zoe Colletti (Annie), Austin Abrams (Brad’s Status, Tragedy Girls), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Michael Garza (Wayward Pines, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight, Kidding), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Gil Bellows (Patriot, Jett) and Lorraine Toussaint (Into The Badlands, Selma, Orange Is The New Black) and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop, Wet Bum).

The first film proved to be a large success, grossing over $106 million worldwide on a $28 million production budget and scored very positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its horror atmosphere and scares, characters, acting and faithfulness to the stories and Gammell’s illustrations.
Mortal is currently slated to hit select theaters, digital platforms and VOD on November 6!

Within the first few hours of the watch party on Thursday night, over a million fans tuned in to interact live with Borat himself and participate in a dance party with fans around the world.
Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios said, “Sacha has masterfully created one of the most well-received films of these unprecedented times – showcasing some of the best and the worst of us, wrapped in one outrageous moment after another. But at its core, Borat 2 is a heartwarming story of a father-daughter relationship and of female empowerment seen through a hysterical, satirical lens. With the tremendous launch of this global, tentpole movie, it’s clear our customers around the world want content that is both relevant and entertaining.”
In the lead up to the film’s release on Friday, October 23, Prime Video coordinated massive stunts and activities around the world. The global stunts included enormous Borat balloons floating down the Thames in London, the Hudson River in New York, Toronto’s Harbourfront, and Praia do Arpoador in Rio. In Sydney, Bondi Beach was transformed into “Borat Beach” with the help of Borat lookalikes dressed in “maskinis.”
Earlier in the week, fans were surprised with a branded content live stream on Twitch. Currently viewed by more than 1 million viewers, it is this year’s highest live viewership of any branded stream on the platform. The day prior to launch Prime Video hosted a global watch and dance party with Borat – which was so popular it crashed the virtual party site.

After partnering with Mandeville Films for the project, Lionsgate’s action-comedy Shotgun Wedding is getting its wheels in motion as Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers, Marry Me) and Armie Hammer (Death on the Nile, Rebecca) have signed on to star in the project.

Written by Mark Hammer (Two Night Stand) and Liz Meriwether (Single Parents, Bless This Mess) and directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), the film centers on Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Hammer) as they gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begin to get cold feet. If that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage and “Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones — if they don’t kill each other first.
“Jennifer and Armie’s irresistible magnetism, separately and together, make them the perfect pairing for this action comedy,” Erin Westerman, President of Production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “They are both incredibly funny actors that can also deliver on the action, but what sets this movie apart is the way their infectious chemistry commands the screen. You can’t take your eyes off them.”
The film is set to be produced by Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman, who previously worked with Lionsgate for Wonder and are currently attached to produce Under Cover, Rabbids and White Bird: A Wonder Story at the studio. The duo will produce alongside Nuyorican Productions’ Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, with Alex Young executive producing for Mandeville, Courtney Baxter for Nuyorican and Ryan Reynolds & George Dewey.

Additionally, Mondo will also be releasing new Universal Monsters items including Figures, Tikis, Apparel, and pins. Few cinematic characters are so iconic that they’ve transcended film to become part of our global reality. But since a certain phantom first visited an opera nearly a century ago, the Universal Monsters have clawed their way to the top as some of the most recognizable and reprehensible faces in the world. For generations, Dracula, Frankenstein and his bride, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon have chilled the spines of literally billions. And this Halloween, Mondo is celebrating their horror legacy with their biggest, boldest, bloodiest tribute yet.
Beloved poster artist Francesco Francavilla keeps the Universal Monsters close to his heart and was pleased to have some of his classic designs transformed into 1000-piece puzzles. Says the artist himself, “I was so excited when Mondo asked me to turn my Universal Monsters screenprints into puzzles. After seeing how cool and entertaining the Jurassic Park one turned out, I jumped at the prospect to have more puzzle fun with my posters.”
Francavilla also shared how he designed each piece:
“For Frankenstein, it took me quite a bit to draw the lab and the cavernous walls of the castle. I think those areas will be lot of fun to fit together and see the Monster come alive!”
“The Wolf Man must be the poster where I’ve drawn more hair (fur?) than anywhere else. It’s gonna be thrilling to see the iconic Lon Chaney Jr makeup coming together against the full moon in the background. AROOOOOO!”
“Some of my favorite classic Dracula posters featured a spider web in the design, so when asked to do my take on this classic, I had to include the web. And Bela’s chilling stare!”
“The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of my fave designs in movies ever — I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve drawn this guy. For the puzzle, we decided to go with my Revenge of the Creature poster because I thought the design and intricacy of the art would be really fun and challenging.”
