Meet Kurt (Keery), a 23-year-old rideshare driver for Spree, who is so desperate for social media attention that he’ll stop at nothing to go viral. He comes up with a plan to livestream a rampage as a shortcut to infamy – coining his evil scheme “#thelesson”, he installs a set of cameras in his car and begins streaming his rides. Wildly miscalculating the popularity that would come from his lethal scheme, Kurt’s desperation grows as he tries to find a way to overcome the plan’s flaws. In the middle of all this madness, a stand-up comedian with her own viral agenda crosses Kurt’s path and becomes the only hope to put a stop to his misguided carnage.

Though the Dark Universe may have crumbled around him at the major studio, Universal Pictures and Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) may reunite once again for the upcoming space-shot project set to be helmed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
RELATED: Tom Cruise Partnering With NASA For Space-Set Project
Though no deal is currently in place yet, sources are reporting that Universal is circling the project and is in talks to acquire the groundbreaking film that will be the first narrative feature to be shot in outer space. It’s unclear at this point if the film aboard the International Space Station is connected to the project Cruise is working on with SpaceX, but given Musk replied to Bridenstine’s tweet by saying “Should be a lot of fun!,” all signs point to the two science organizations working together on the movie. The film announced on Monday with SpaceX is set to be the first narrative feature shot in outer space and is reportedly not attached to Cruise’s long-running hit franchise Mission: Impossible.
Both Cruise and Liman are busy wrapping other projects at the moment. Cruise is waiting to get back to work with Christopher McQuarrie on Mission: Impossible 7, which was shut down due to the coronavirus; and has the recently completed Top Gun: Maverick waiting in the wings. Liman is in postproduction on Chaos Walking, starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland. Cruise and Liman were also working on a separate project together titled Luna Park for Paramount Pictures.
Cruise has become notorious in Hollywood for his meticulous nature of doing almost exclusively his own stunts, rivaling Jackie Chan (The Foreigner) for the heights and extremes he will go to deliver pulse-pounding set pieces throughout his various blockbuster films. While the first Mission: Impossible was a generally tame effort for stunts, Cruise has taken it bigger with each follow-up, beginning with the no-wire climb in Mission: Impossible 2 in Utah’s Dead Horse Point State Park and continuing with the Shanghai skyscraper run in 3, scaling the Dubai skyscraper the Burj Khalifa and executing stunts 123 floors up in Ghost Protocol.

The most notorious came in the sixth and most acclaimed installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Fallout, which saw him hang from a helicopter in flight and scale a hanging payload, followed by flying the chopper itself around the Siachen Glacier and conducting a real High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) jump. He also leaped between multiple rooftops for a foot chase sequence, which resulted in him infamously breaking his ankle and forcing production to halt on the film for two months.

HBO will adapt the critically acclaimed stage show, Between the World and Me, based on the #1 New York Times bestseller of the same name by author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates, as an HBO Special Event to air this fall.
Originally adapted and staged by the Apollo Theater in 2018, the special will combine elements of that production, including powerful readings from Coates’ book, and will once again be directed by award-winning director and Apollo Theater Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes. In addition to producing this special, HBO will be making a charitable donation to Howard University and the Apollo Theater.

“Ta-Nehisi’s book is a modern literary classic that provides an essential message for our times,” says Casey Bloys, President, HBO Programming. “We are tremendously proud to bring this incredibly important event to our audiences.”
“I’ve been working with Kamilah for almost as long as I’ve been a writer,” said Ta-Nehisi Coates. “I can think of no one better to put Between the World and Me on screen and no better home for it than HBO.”
“As people across our country continue to speak out about violent, systemic racism and the urgent need for tangible change, Ta-Nehisi’s words resonate as strongly today as they did five years ago,” said Kamilah Forbes. “I’m excited to collaborate again with both Ta-Nehisi and HBO on this important special event, ensuring that the powerful voices in this work and the cry for justice from the Black community continue to reach a broader audience.”
Coates’ book Between the World and Me (available to order here) published by One World, is a New York Times Bestseller, National Book Award winner, and Pulitzer Prize finalist. First published in 2015, it is written as a letter to Coates’ teenage son and recounts the author’s experiences growing up in Baltimore’s inner city and his growing fear of daily violence against the Black community. The narrative explores Coates’ bold notion that American society structurally supports white supremacy.
The stage adaptation based on Between the World and Me was originally performed in 2018 as a limited engagement at the Apollo Theater and the Kennedy Center, with encore performances at the Apollo Theater and again in Atlanta in 2019. Kamilah Forbes, a close friend of Coates, is featured in the book as “Aunt Kamilah” and was immediately inspired to adapt Coates’ work to the stage after reading it. The pair met at Howard University, a pivotal time in both of their lives that has been a continued source of creativity and inspiration. Watson, also a Howard alum, participated in the staged reading at the Apollo and Kennedy Center.

Between the World and Me will be directed by Kamilah Forbes who also serves as executive producer; executive produced by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Susan Kelechi Watson; produced by Roger Ross Williams. Williams’ production company ONE STORY UP produces.
Ta-Nehisi Coates and Susan Kelechi Watson are also executive producers for the adaptation. Oscar-winning filmmaker Roger Ross Williams is producing. It will also incorporate documentary footage from the actors’ home life, archival footage, and animation. The special will be produced under COVID-19 guidelines. Between the World and Me will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.

Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genisys was a dud with audiences and critics when it was released back in 2015, though it tried valiantly to take the series in a different direction. In a recent interview on The Production Meeting Podcast, co-writer Patrick Lussier revealed where he planned on taking the sequels.
RELATED: Is Donald Glover Returning as Lando for Disney+ Series?
“We wrote like two drafts of the next one, the direct sequel, and had an outline for the third one, what that would be, that answered all the questions that were presented in ‘Genisys’ and brought it back around and closed it all off,” he explained.
He also argued that Genisys was introducing new characters who would have gone in a completely different direction in the follow up films.
“They dealt more with how the future and where Skynet comes from and what that sort of time loop is. You know, the Matt Smith character. It became much more of a focus, so they were probably a little trippier and stood away from ‘T2’ a little more. Started having their own identity. There’s sort of an interesting escaping the fatalistic part of it, how it opened was very cool… who knows? Maybe one day they’ll release it as a comic or something.”

Directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) Terminator: Genisys brought back Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older Terminator, joined by Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung Hun Lee and Matt Smith. The film grossed $440 million worldwide, making the second highest grossing entry in the franchise before inflation, against a $160 million budget. Only 27% of critics awarded the film a positive score.
