As the director and his ensemble cast have assembled for the previously untitled thriller, M. Night Shyamalan (Glass) has taken to Twitter to unveil the title and first key art for his 2021 ensemble pic, which is now being called Old. His announcement tweet can be viewed below!

In addition to Shyamalan’s announcement, Collider has revealed that plot details are not a secret anymore as sources report that the film will be based on Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters’ acclaimed graphic novel Sandcastle, which centers on a group of people who find they are unable to escape a mysterious, secluded beach as a dark secret surrounding time keeps them there after discovering a dead body. Shyamalan reportedly received the novel as a Father’s Day gift and quickly swept up the rights to it after falling in love with the story concept.

The ensemble cast for the film includes Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), Thomasin McKenzie (True History of the Kelly Gang), Aaron Pierce (Krypton), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Tower), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Avenue 5, Gold Digger, Jupiter Ascending), Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) and Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Inhumans, The Blacklist).
The project is written, directed, and produced by two-time Oscar nominee Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable).
Shyamalan’s high-concept content has consistently captured the attention of audiences around the world for nearly two decades, having amassed more than $3.3 billion worldwide. His most recent Universal project, Glass, the culmination of his Eastrail 177 Trilogy, garnered nearly $250 million worldwide and opened No. 1 at the box office, remaining in the top spot for three weeks. Split, the second film in the epic series, also debuted at No. 1 and remained there for three weeks in a row during its 2017 release, while 2015’s The Visit brought in close to $100 million at the worldwide box office and was one of the highest-grossing horror films of the year. Having independently financed the three films with a combined production budget of $35 million, Glass, Split and The Visit went on to cumulatively gross more than $600 million worldwide. He will similarly finance his next two films.

Rod Serling’s two signature series have become cultural institutions in the decades since they aired. While Twilight Zone will always be the gold standard for socially-conscious sci-fi, it also served as a springboard for “twist”-oriented storytelling still practiced by filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan. Even the worst episodes have an eerie vibe that gets under your skin. A favorite episode would be “Time Enough at Last” starring Burgess Meredith as the last bibliophile on earth.
And then there’s the (sort-of) companion series Night Gallery, which leaned a little more towards the supernatural. Despite the fact that it’s in color and Serling himself had less and lee involvement/creative control as the series went on, it still carries the torch of that flavor of storytelling that Twilight Zone pioneered. There’s also a delightful early 70’s kitsch to the proceedings, and the show featured some of the first directorial work of a young Steven Spielberg! A favorite episode has to be the infamous “earwig” episode “The Caterpillar” starring Laurence Harvey, a Serling special with a devastating ending!

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s never too early to curl up on the couch with some homemade popcorn, traumatized kids, and one freaky killer clown. Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most classic scary stories successfully relies more on its heart than its horror, effortlessly blending genres in a coming-of-age tale that is broken up into two parts and features an incredible ensemble cast of young performers and their adult counterparts in the second film. That being said, the movies never forget their gruesome horror roots and the deep-seated fears that our favorite Losers Club are forced to face — and ultimately overcome — if they stand any chance taking down Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise.
The comedic and musical trio known as The Lonely Island have delivered a number of amazing things to audiences over the years, but arguably their best film effort came in the form of the music mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Released in 2016, the film centered on the outlandish antics of Conner4Real, who the trio swears isn’t based on Justin Bieber despite their claim being hard to believe as the parallels are endless between the two. After peaking with his debut solo album following the breakup of his young music group, Conner is struggling to keep his stardom going as his new album flops and must compete with his opening act, the up-and-coming Hunter the Hungry, played brilliantly by fellow Saturday Night Live vet Chris Redd. With a cast made up of SNL alums and incredible comedic talent, a soundtrack perfect for longtime Lonely Island fans as well as newcomers to the group and a script that brilliantly skewers its central industry and embraces the best tropes of the mockumentary genre, it’s a cult classic that not only acts as a modern-day This is Spinal Tap, but even rivals it.
Featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds, this animated comedy film is set during the prehistoric time where it follows the story of a cavemen family called The Croods, who have been lucky enough to avoid different disasters and creatures due to the leadership of its overprotective patriarch named Grug. Besides going to hunt for food, the family only spends most of their time in their cave because of the fear of getting killed. However, their cave survival tactics are about to get challenged when the family’s teenage daughter Eep meets Guy, a smart and inventive boy who warns them of the upcoming apocalypse. From then on, The Croods’ normal lives are about to change as they go on a long adventure through the unknown, seeking for a new and safe place to call home.
This 2013 film is one of my favorite animated films to date which is definitely a must-watch on family movie nights. Even though it received critical acclaim and was a box office success, it’s still underrated and overlooked by a lot of people, who might haven’t gotten the chance to see this gem. I think part of the reason why it didn’t get the much-needed hype it deserves was because it came out the same year as Disney’s Frozen which unarguably one of 2013’s most talked about films. What I love the most about The Croods is its charming, entertaining and heartwarming story that has the ability to connect with people. On top of that, all of its characters are funny and likable which makes it difficult for the audience to choose a favorite.
In preparation of the upcoming theatrical release of its follow-up film The Croods 2: A New Age, now is the perfect time for you to check out or revisit this Oscar-nominated film!
One positive thing about this whole COVID lockdown is that I’ve been able to go back and watch or classic films I hadn’t seen. Recently, I discovered Bull Durham, Tango and Cash and the action bonanza Commando all of which provided some worthy mid-week entertainment. Then I popped in 48 Hours starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte and holy shit … how did I miss this?
Directed by Walter Hill, producer of the Alien franchise and director of such classics as The Warriors (1979) and Hard Times (1975), the film follows the basic formula of most buddy cop films — i.e., an odd couple team up for a job and learn to respect each other only after two hours of non-stop bickering — but manages to stand apart from the Lethal Weapons and Die Hards thanks to the charismatic performances from its two leads and the raw emotion simmering beneath the tangible violence. Indeed, 48 Hours basks in so much foul-mouthed debauchery, bloody carnage, and racial themes it’s a wonder it got made at all. Yet, the overarching result is a fast, furious and often funny thriller oozing with tension and 1980’s machismo.
As a side, as good as Murphy was in Beverly Hills Cop two years later, his performance in 48 Hours is nothing short of remarkable. The scene in which he bursts into a cowboy bar and takes control of a hostile situation with his pitch-perfect proclamation, “There’s a new sheriff in town!” is one of those rare magical moments that reminds us why we pay to sit in a dark room to drink soda, eat popcorn and watch movies with a bunch of strangers — to witness the birth of a friggin’ superstar.

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs the World exploded onto the screen? Neither can Mark Webber, who discussed the cult classic while promoting his upcoming film The Place of No Words.

“Oh my God, yeah! Scott Pilgrim is the best,” Mark said. “That film means so much to me. Every single person that worked on that film still means so much to me and is a part of my life. And to have reconnected with everyone recently — we did a read for charity, for Water for People … and it was so rad to see everyone after these ten years — which is crazy to all of us that it’s been ten years. What the f**k? How did that happen?”
Webber revealed that he and the cast knew at the time they were making something special.
“I knew at the time — we all knew,” he said. “Yeah, it didn’t make the amount of money it was supposed to make at the box office, but we all knew we made a really incredible, special film. And so it feels extra special now having seen the generations of fans and the cult status the film has achieved is just so rad.”
The actor then spoke about how he experienced the film as both a participant and a fan. “It’s cool to be able to watch a film that you’re in and feel that way. Every time I watch the movie it’s just so enjoyable. And being able to play my Sex Ba-Bomb albums in the car for the kids. They’re like, ‘That’s really you dad?’ And I’m like, yeah! It’s pretty awesome. I’m bragging to my pre-teen son that I’ve got 11 million streams on Spotify! Sex Ba-Bomb, this fictional band, actually ended up succeeding. It’s really a cool kick.”
Finally, he ended by reiterating his love for cast and crew and his hope that Scott Pilgrim will continue to thrive in the annals of pop culture.
“I love everyone on that film – we all have this really cool love for each other. And it’s really cool to see so many people rediscovering it and keeping it alive. It’s a bummer because the plan was it was going to hit theaters and be re-released, but then this situation we’re all in right now has turned everything upside down. It’s still nice that, despite the re-release not happening, it’s still being honored again.”

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World starred Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, a young man who falls hard for Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Ramona Flowers. But to win Ramona’s heart, Scott has to face her seven evil exes, including Lucas Lee (Chris Evans), Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh), Roxy Richter (Mae Whitman), and Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman). Alison Brie also appears as Scott’s evil ex, Envy Adams, alongside Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.

Even though the film had a poor box office performance, it had still earned positive reviews from critics and has amassed quite a cult following. Even though a sequel is off the table, Edgar Wright has instead revealed that there are talks currently happening about a potential animated spinoff series.

After over 17 years of resting in development hell, the film adaptation of Mattel’s long-running toy line Hot Wheels is finally gaining some ground as Warner Bros. has tapped rising scribes Neil Widener and Gavin James to write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
RELATED: Yakuza: Sega Developing Live-Action Adaptation Based on Video Game Franchise
Plot details for the film are currently being kept close to the chest, but sources report that the story treatment the duo delivered to the studio was so effective it won them the gig ahead of “several more established players” who submitted spec scripts to the studio.
Warner Bros. and Mattel first entered into a partnership in January 2019 for the live-action project, which had shuffled around Hollywood for over 15 years at that point, first beginning at Columbia Pictures with McG (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) set to direct before heading to WB in a co-production between the studios and having Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) set to write, only for that iteration to also be thrown into turnaround.
Legendary Entertainment would subsequently obtain the rights to the iconic car brand in June 2011 and were eyeing Simon Crane (Men in Black 3) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) as the frontrunners for possible directors and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Morbius, Uncharted) set to pen the script with a Mission:Impossible and Fast Five tone. Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond, F9) would later sign on to direct but after four years of a lack of progress, it would once again die and have the rights revert to Mattel, with Robbie Brenner currently attached to produce the new project.

Widener and James have yet to have a script be produced for the big screen but they have been attached to pen the script for the sequel to the Dwayne Johnson-led disaster pic San Andreas as well as originally being set to scribe Now You See Me 3 before it languished in development and Lionsgate would tap Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick) for the position earlier this year.

After landing Noah Centineo (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) earlier this year for the role of Atom Smasher, the long-awaited Black Adam film led by Dwayne Johnson may have found its Hawkman in the form of Aldis Hodge as the Invisible Man star has entered talks for the character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
RELATED: Dwayne Johnson Confirms Hawkgirl Won’t Be Part of Black Adam’s Justice Society
During its appearance at last month’s DC Fandome event, it was revealed that the film would feature the appearances of Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Cyclone to set up the Justice Society of America, while also bringing word that Hawkgirl would have to remain absent for the time being. Over the years, many superheroines have assumed the secret identity of Hawkgirl. The only recurring element is her partner/romantic interest Hawkman since it’s nearly impossible to see one without the other. Recently, fans saw the Shiera Sanders Hall version of Hawkgirl as part of the Justice Society of America in the Stargirl television series. Sadly, she lost her life to Brainwave on the night the Injustice Society attacked the JSA headquarters.

Dwayne Johnson has been working on Black Adam for 10 years. The character was originally supposed to appear in this year’s Shazam! but decided to save his highly-anticipated debut for a later film in order to let each character get some breathing room. However, despite not appearing in Shazam!, his character was teased with the wizard Shazam, played by Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), telling his origin story to Billy Batson.
Based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) with Johnson starring as the titular anti-hero and Adam Sztykiel having written the current script. Noah Centino will play Atom Smasher in the movie. The film will be the second collaboration between Collet-Serra and Johnson, who have also been working together on Disney’s forthcoming adventure film Jungle Cruise.

After already landing her Grown-ish co-star for the highly coveted role of Ariel in the forthcoming Little Mermaid remake, Disney has landed series lead Yara Shahidi for the role of Tinker Bell in the upcoming Peter Pan live-action adaptation, according to Deadline.

The 20-year-old actress joins a cast that includes two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law (The Third Day) as the notorious Captain Hook and newcomers Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, the latter of whom is the daughter of action star Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil). Molony’s acting credits include the Disney Junior’s Claude series and Sky One series The Reluctant Landlord. Anderson made her acting debut as a younger version of her mother in 2016’s action-horror film Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Anderson will next be seen in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Black Widow as the younger version of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff.

First published in 1911, Peter Pan & Wendy tells the story of the boy who never grows up named Peter Pan as he meets Wendy Darling and takes her along with her brothers John and Michael to the magical island of Neverland. There, they get to meet the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell, followed by many dangerous adventures against Peter’s lifelong nemesis Captain Hook.
J.M. Barrie’s iconic tale has been adapted into a live-action film a few times including Steven Spielberg’s 1991 live-action film which starred Robin Williams and Julia Roberts; and 2003’s coming-of-age film starring Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood which was probably the most recognized live-action adaptation among many young people; and the most recent one, Joe Wright’s 2016 Pan starring Hugh Jackman. However, Disney’s 1953 animated film Peter Pan has remained the most popular adaptation of the tale.

Peter Pan & Wendy will be directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, The Green Knight) with Toby Halbrooks having co-written the adaptation with Lowery. The project will be part of Disney’s growing slate of live-action films including The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, and Niki Caro’s upcoming Mulan which is set to hit theaters on March 27.
Last year, Disney has proven the success of their efforts of adapting many of their classic animated films into live-action with Jon Favreau’s The Lion King and Guy Richie’s Aladdin both earning a gross of over $1 billion.

The post Amazon Prime Video October 2020 TV & Film Titles Announced! appeared first on ComingSoon.net.
Recently, ComingSoon.net got the chance to talk to Keira Knightley about her new film, Misbehaviour, and we couldn’t help but take a few minutes to ask her about one of her first film roles in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. Surprisingly, Keira does not seem to be asked about the film much and admits that she was twelve when they filmed, and she only watched it once when it premiered. In the film, Keira played Sabe, one of Queen Amidala’s most important handmaidens. She later becomes a decoy, taking over the queen’s throne while Amidala dresses down and goes by the less formal name Padme. You can check out the interview now in the player below, and rent or purchase Knightley’s new movie Misbehaviour by clicking here!

Misbehaviour boasts an all-star cast including Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game, Pride & Prejudice), BAFTA Film Award nominee Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, Black Mirror), BAFTA Film Award nominee Jessie Buckley (Wild Rose, Judy), BAFTA TV Award nominee Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, The Durrells), BAFTA Film Award winner Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey, Secrets & Lies), Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville (Ordinary Love, Phantom Thread) BAFTA TV Award winner Rhys Ifans (The King’s Man, Notting Hill), and Academy Award nominee Greg Kinnear (Frankie, As Good as It Gets). A witty yet heartfelt film, Misbehaviour was directed by multiple BAFTA Award-winning director Philippa Lowthorpe and written by Rebecca Frayn and BAFTA Scotland Award nominee Gaby Chiappe.
In 1970, the Miss World competition took place in London, hosted by US comedy legend, Bob Hope. At the time, Miss World was the most-watched TV show on the planet with over 100 million viewers. Claiming that beauty competitions demeaned women, the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement achieved overnight fame by invading the stage and disrupting the live broadcast of the competition. Not only that, when the show resumed, the result caused uproar: the winner was not the Swedish favorite but Miss Grenada, the first black woman to be crowned Miss World. In a matter of hours, a global audience had witnessed the patriarchy driven from the stage and the Western ideal of beauty turned on its head.
