This show will broadcast live via a private YouTube link that will be sent to ticket purchasers an hour prior to showtime. You can also watch directly on Eventbrite. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will benefit NAACP Empowerment Programs, who engage primarily in training, education, and advocacy at the national and local levels.

Viewers will be able to tune in from anywhere in the world. Anyone who purchases a ticket will gain access to re-watch the livestream and download it for personal viewing.

Glen or Glenda, the legendary debut film from director Ed Wood, Jr. (the infamous visionary behind Plan 9 From Outer Space), is a hilariously confusing but gentle tale of a young “transvestite” (played by Ed himself) who must come to grips with his identity as an angora-loving cross-dresser while also struggling to find acceptance from his fiancé and society at large. Narrated by horror movie icon Bela Lugosi, and featuring heaps of unrelated stock footage, strange dream sequences and gloriously campy dialogue, Glen or Glenda, despite its many failings as a film, helped revolutionize cinema by presenting a very progressive tale championing tolerance and kindness toward gender-nonconforming people … in 1953! “Pull the string! Pull the string!”

Amazon Prime Video has released a new Radioactive clip from director Marjane Satrapi’s Marie Curie biographical drama film, featuring renowned scientists Marie and Pierre Curie as they present their groundbreaking discoveries. Starring Rosamund Pike, the film will be available for streaming on Friday, July 24. Check out the video in the player below!

From the 1870s to the modern era, Radioactive is a journey through Marie Curie’s enduring legacies – her passionate relationships, scientific breakthroughs, and the consequences that followed for her and for the world. After meeting fellow scientist Pierre Curie, the pair go on to marry and change the face of science forever by their discovery of radioactivity. The genius of the Curies’ world-changing discoveries and the ensuing Nobel Prize propels the devoted couple into the international limelight.

The film stars Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) as Marie Curie, Sam Riley (Maleficent, Control) as Pierre Curie, and Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma, New Mutants) as Irene Curie. It will also feature Cara Bossom, Aneurin Barnard, Simon Russell Beale, Tim Woodward, Jonathan Aris, Mirjam Novak, and Michael Gould.

Based on Lauren Redniss’ graphic novel of the same name, Radioactive is directed by Marjane Satrapi from a screenplay written by Jack Thorne. It is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Paul Webster. The film is a co-production by Working Title Films and StudioCanal in partnership with Shoebox Films.

Marie Curie is a Polish-French physicist and chemist who was the first one to develop the theory of radioactivity, which is a term she coined. She is also best known for discovering two elements: the polonium and radium. Because of her incredible work, Curie was awarded two Nobel Prize Awards in 1903 and 1911, making her the first woman to win the award. At the age of 66, she died in 1934 due to aplastic anemia which was caused by her too much exposure from the radiation during the course of her extensive scientific research.

Watchmen Screenwriter Reveals Plans for an Alternate Ending

Whatever you have to say about Zack Snyder’s filmmaking style, his Watchmen movie is about as faithful an adaptation that fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel could have hoped for. The only major deviation from the source material was the omission of the giant squid, which Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias transported to New York in order to bring about global peace. Snyder’s film instead framed Doctor Manhattan for a series of energy reactor explosions around the world. Not surprisingly, the squid’s absence didn’t sit well with certain moviegoers. But according to co-writer David Hayter, they almost ended up with something completely different from Moore and Gibbons’ original ending (via SuperHeroHype).

Before Snyder came along, Watchmen saw several other directors come and go, including Hayter himself and Paul Greengrass. When Greengrass was attached to the film, Hayter’s script took even more liberties with the graphic novel’s conclusion. Hayter detailed these during a recent appearance on the Script Apart podcast. Apparently, this iteration of the movie would have ended with Nite Owl killing Ozymandias by ramming him with the Owlship. This stopped Veidt from completing his master plan. However, the surviving heroes would broadcast a doctored video appearing to show Doctor Manhattan attacking major cities.

Additionally, Hayter revealed that Greengrass’ film would have moved the timeframe from the 1980s to the present day.

“We knew it was going to be very difficult to do the ending of the book,” Hayter explained. “Plus 9/11 had happened and I didn’t think we should have images of bodies in Times Square, I felt that was not appropriate. So that inspired me to say, people should just be blown to shadows, like the Hiroshima shadows that are painted in the comic book.”

Hayter also mentioned Greengrass’ successor on the project, Darren Aronofsky. Although Aronofsky’s Watchmen tenure lasted only one week, Hayter credited him with inspiring the ending we saw in Snyder’s version.

“He sent me a note which said, ‘I have a friend who is a physicist and he had an idea for the movie,” Hayter continued. “What if Doctor Manhattan is the agent of destruction.’ That just clicked into place in my brain.”

CS Interview: Brenton Thwaites on multi-genre Ghosts of War

ComingSoon.net got the opportunity to chat with star Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) to discuss his role in the multi-genre horror pic Ghosts of War, which is now available on digital platforms! Click here to rent or purchase Ghosts of War!

In looking back on how he came to be a part of the film, the 30-year-old Australian star credits writer/director Eric Bress as the biggest reason for his desire to star in the film, looking back fondly at his 2004 directorial debut as a source of reference for why he trusted Bress with this story.

“He just created such a cool movie in The Butterfly Effect that I thought, ‘Wow this is going to be littered with nuanced elements, hints, to the keen eye’ and I read it and I thought these characters are so-developed on page one,” Thwaites recalled. “Thrown in, this is such a realistic world in the World War II drama aspect of the movie, I just was in right from the get-go, I wanted to know where these men would go. I love the idea that we start the movie in such a way that carries such a weight with these guys and it allows us to really understand each character and kind of where they are and emotionally where they’re sitting and how they feel about the war and that was it. The rest of the film, the horror aspect and the multi-genreness, was great, that’s something that I’ve never done before. But really it was the first few pages of opening up on this tired group of men who have been fighting in World War II for months.”

Thwaites described the bridge Bress built between the horror and World War II drama genres as “effortless,” praising the fact that in the first act of the film there are “no real massive horror hints” of a “terrible, supernatural force” set to appear later on in the film.

“We think that it’s gonna be an art piece and we assume the setup is that these guys are in Nazi territory, we know what’s coming, we’ve seen this movie before, we know from all the weapons we have and from talking that we have the capability of lighting up this house and having a great gun show,” Thwaites described. “But he kind of pulls that rug out from under us and turns the movie in a whole other direction quite effortlessly and that was one of the things that I thought was 1) really unique, but 2) was a great opportunity for these characters to only develop further and to sink further into their tiredness and their stress and kind of mental fog.”

Tapping into the exhaustion of his character and how it would spill over into the “level of power” he would have as a lieutenant was “something that I was questioning” and proved to be one of the biggest creative challenges for the Titans star.

“I obviously didn’t want to be yelling at them to drop and give me 20, but I obviously didn’t want to carry the air of someone who couldn’t control them or lead them, but it was finding that middle ground of being compassionate, of being believable as a leader and also creating that tone to where the boys look to me for guidance and direction,” Thwaites explained. “When I don’t know what to do, that’s kind of the last straw, if I don’t know what to do or where to go, that’s the end of the power and there’s confusion and little bit more anxiety of what’s going to happen because their leader doesn’t know. Working with Eric, he was leaning more towards the compassionate, more vulnerable and tired line and so was I, so that kind of worked.”

Looking at the rest of his cast members, which includes Alan Ritchson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Skyler Astin (Zooey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Kyle Gallner (Interrogation) and Theo Rossi (Luke Cage), he found the “guys were just wonderful to work with,” looking back fondly at their time in Bulgaria on set and off.

“We all stayed in the same hotel, most of us were at a stage where we just had kids and we’re kind of entering that stage of being dads and the next stage of our careers, so we had built a rapport subconsciously already,” Thwaites related. “Then on top of that with the preparation involved of boot camps, which involved different movie-watching sessions with Eric Bress, we watched Saving Private Ryan to get an understanding of where Eric wanted to open the movie and how he wanted us to feel like and try and emulate that kind of scene of these guys traveling across the country and how tired they would be and how big a fuck up it is to the leader of the crew to say they’d gone in the wrong direction and the consequences that could have. Eating together and spending time together is some of the best preparation you can have and we did a ton of it.”

Though just now hitting digital platforms after its DirecTV debut in June, Ghosts of War was actually shot over two years ago and marked the first time Thwaites and Ritchson worked together before going on to reunite on DC Universe’s Titans.

“Alan is such a wonderful actor, his comedic timing is some of the best I’ve ever seen and his drama chops, he commits to the moment like no one I’d ever seen,” Thwaites noted. “This is a tough movie for him, because he has all the heightened moments of this crew, a large part of the bad shit happens to him in a sense and without him committing to his moments, it would soften the moment in these scenes, so he brought a great physicality and commitment to the crew.”

Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.

The movie also stars Alan Ritchson (Titans, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blue Mountain State), Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, 21 & Over), Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy, Luke Cage, Lowriders), Kyle Gallner (American Sniper, The Finest Hours, Dear White People), Billy Zane (Titanic, The Phantom, Dead Calm), and Shaun Toub (Iron Man, Crash, Snowpiercer).

Tom Holland provides potential production timeline for Spider-Man 3

Last April, MCU star Tom Holland revealed that he still wasn’t sure when he would get to begin filming for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 3. However, as production begins for Holland’s other high-profile project Uncharted, it looks like a plan has already been set for the production start of the upcoming MCU film with the 24-year-old British actor providing an update on its potential production timeline.

In an appearance on a video posted through Dominic Holland’s Patreon, Holland confirmed that he needs to finish Uncharted first before he could go on and begin filming Spider-Man 3 which would hopefully be finished by February 2021.

“Finish Uncharted, finish Spider-Man in February next year,” Tom Holland said on his father’s Patreon (via Reddit). “Two press tours, maybe together, which should take six weeks worth of work.”

Originally scheduled for a July 16, 2021 release, the film has now been pushed back to November 5, 2021. The untitled third installment’s previous release date was recently given to Uncharted.

Tom Holland will return for the film as the titular wall-crawler, and it remains to be seen what villains he’ll go up against in the trilogy caper. Given the ending of Far From Home however, any number of his rogues gallery are likely eager for a fight. The third installment to the MCU’s Spider-Man films will also feature the return of Zendaya (Euphoria, Dune) as MJ. Holland’s Spider-Man is also set to appear in another Marvel Studios film per the new agreement.

Sony’s upcoming Spidey slate includes the Venom sequel, starring Tom Hardy and directed by Andy Serkis, as well as Jared Leto’s in-the-can Morbius, a Kraven the Hunter film, and a spinoff featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat. Should these films interact with the MCU and Tom Holland, it remains to be seen, but the door seems open.

Ghosts of War Review:

Despite being filled with potential for numerous horrific tales, World War II has very rarely been touched upon or utilized in the horror genre, maybe vaguely referenced in multiple but very rarely directly used and though Eric Bress’ Ghosts of War manages to get a few decent scares out of this time period, it still proves to be a mostly lackluster and unscary effort.

During the bleakest days of WW2, five battled-hardened soldiers are given a cake assignment; to hold down a Chateau in the French countryside formerly used by the Nazi high command. What begins as an unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter an enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield. Cut off from contact with the outside world, Lieutenant Goodson and his men begin experiencing inexplicable events and are taunted by malevolent unseen forces. Something is occupying the house; an evil that will not let them leave alive.

Bress is not a bad filmmaker by any means, as he and J. Mackye Gruber proved in their directorial debuts The Butterfly Effect that they had plenty of style behind the camera and knew how to craft an emotional and twisty script, but in looking at the rest of his filmography, it becomes apparent that he can’t quite sustain without Gruber and Ghosts of War is one of the clearest examples. The story may not be the most original affair, but it offers what could have been a nice setup for either a simply fun haunted house ride or the twistier heights that it shoots for, but instead in trying to aim for both it mostly fails in the same manner.

The dialogue is a little rote and full of clichés for both the horror and war genres, with soldiers lamenting the atrocities they’ve committed and horrible things they’ve seen and reflecting on their childhoods growing up and the various spiritual and superstitious beliefs hey may or may not hold. The writing does also initially appear to be full of anachronisms and continuity errors, but as the film progresses these start to resolve themselves in intriguing fashion and offers up a few unique twists to the story that could’ve been great had the surrounding film been better.

As far as the scares go, it’s all pretty par for the course in the modern genre of filmmakers believing that the best way to terrify a viewer is to throw something in front of the camera that wasn’t there a second ago with a very loud musical screech. That’s not to say that some of the imagery on display in front of the lens isn’t disturbing, because the spirits are pretty haunting to look at in a few of their brief appearances, but the more they linger on screen, the less-intimidating they are and the jump scares themselves prove to be uninteresting and more evident of a rush job than taking the time to build suspense.

Despite a cast full of talented performers, they all mostly prove to be uninteresting in their fairly routine characters, becoming a meld of forgettable and cardboard cutouts that make it hard to truly care about them. Brenton Thwaites’ Chris fluctuates back and forth between a wide-eyed younger soldier thoroughly afraid of their current situation and a leader-type trying to help keep his group together, but be it his performance, the writing, or both, it feels like a real imbalance of a central character that proves hard to connect to and even harder to care for.

Though Ghosts of War has some interesting ideas on how to blend a unique story with an old-fashioned haunted house thrill ride, its lackluster writing, uninteresting characters, and dull performances add up to a true waste of potential.

Russo Bros. Pizza Film School episode 7 details revealed!

The end of the week is nearly upon us and with that comes the revelation of the details for the seventh episode of the hit weekly series Russo Bros. Pizza Film School in which the Avengers directing duo discuss some of their favorite films with guests, this week’s assignment being David Lynch’s acclaimed neo-noire mystery Blue Velvet. The teaser for the episode can be viewed in the player below!

Written and directed by Lynch, the film centers on college student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) as he returns home after his father has a stroke. When he discovers a severed ear in an abandoned field, Beaumont teams up with detective’s daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) to solve the mystery. They believe beautiful lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) may be connected with the case, and Beaumont finds himself becoming drawn into her dark, twisted world, where he encounters sexually depraved psychopath Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper).
