Gal Gadot reportedly in talks for a new spy film from The Old Guard scribe

Coming off the successful release of Netflix’s The Old Guard, Skydance and comic book writer Greg Rucka have reportedly set up their next collaboration with the development of a brand new female-led spy thriller film. According to Discussing Film, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has already entered negotiations for the untitled project’s leading role.

The untitled spy thriller will be written by Greg Rucka, who recently made his screenwriting film debut with the film adaptation of his popular fantasy graphic novel series The Old Guard. Plot details about the film are still being kept under wraps but the outlet’s sources described the project as something similar to blockbuster action franchises like James Bond and Mission: Impossible.

Skydance’s Don Granger and Dana Goldberg will be overseeing the film in behalf of the studio. Interestingly, Greg Rucka wrote a few Wonder Woman comics during the early 2000s up until 2017.

California Has Indefinitely Closed Down Movie Theaters Again

California Has Indefinitely Closed Down Movie Theaters Again

California has indefinitely closed down movie theaters again

Last month, it was announced that the state of California was finally ready to re-open movie theaters with the release of their new COVID-19 industry guidance for Family Entertainment Centers. However, Gov. Gavin Newsom has ultimately decided to indefinitely closed down all movie theaters again in the state as well as other indoor operations including bars, restaurants, zoos and museums. His difficult decision comes after a sudden surge of new COVID-19 cases as California records an alarming number of 8,358 new cases within the past 24 hours.

“This virus is not going away anytime soon,” Newsome said in yesterday’s press conference (via Variety). “I hope all of us recognize that if we are still connected to some notion that somehow when it gets warm, it’s going to go away, or somehow it’s going to take summer months or weekends off, this virus has done neither. It’s incumbent on all of us to recognize, soberly, that COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon until there is a vaccine and/or an effective therapy.”

This newest setback for theater chains will definitely affect upcoming new movie releases that are scheduled in August. It has also put high-profile films like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Disney’s Mulan, and 20th Century Studios’ New Mutants back in dangerous spots as all films might be facing another potential delay.

ComingSoon.net recommends all readers comply with CDC guidelines and remain as isolated as possible during this urgent time.

Netflix Developing a Bird Box Sequel

Netflix Developing a Bird Box Sequel

Just when you thought it was safe to put away your blindfolds… Netflix is preparing another Bird Box feature. Writer Josh Malerman confirmed as much during an interview with Inverse in which he stated the sequel will focus on the events depicted in his upcoming follow up novel, “Malorie.”

“‘Malorie’ opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends,” Malerman said. “Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off 10 years after that. I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development… Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game.”

Bird Box was a massive success for Netflix after being viewed by 45,037,125 accounts, which gave it the best (at the time) first 7 days ever for a Netflix movie. Critical reception was mixed with only 63% awarding the Sandra Bullock horror drama a positive review, while just 57% of audiences gave it a thumbs up. Even so, a sequel will likely generate plenty of buzz.

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.

Exclusive: Talia Shire Reflects on Prophecy 40 Years Later

Talia Shire reflects on Prophecy 40 years later

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net promoting the Blu-ray release of Rad, Talia Shire took a moment to reflect back on the 1979 horror flick Prophecy, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. While the film was something of a critical and box office disappointment it currently carries a strong cult following with even the likes of Quentin Tarantino claiming he has a soft spot for it.

Shire, who played Maggie Verne in the film, was initially hesitant to discuss Prophecy — “Oh dear,” she replied when asked about the title — but eventually went on to praise director John Frankenheimer, the film’s cast and even championed its message about the environment.

“Well, first of all, that had the great John Frankenheimer, right, who was, I mean — and again, I’m much older, but I remember watching or hearing about his work with live television,” Shire said. “For anybody out there, there was this thing called live television, which is rather a remarkable feat, how they organized those productions. And John was the young director of live television. And so, I had always respected his work. And it was an opportunity to work with him and wonderful, wonderful actors.”

Said actors include Robert Foxworth, Armand Assante, Victoria Racimo and Richard A. Dysart.

“And it was a piece that spoke to ecology, ecological issues,” Shire continued. “And we’re talking 40 years ago, but 40 years ago it was speaking to pollution and the consequences of pollution. No, it wasn’t a big success, but I think it’s also discovering an audience today.”

Here’s the official plot synopsis from Google: “When a dispute occurs between a logging operation and a nearby Native American tribe, Dr. Robert Verne (Robert Foxworth) and his wife, Maggie (Talia Shire), are sent in to mediate. Chief John Hawks (Armand Assante) insists the loggers are poisoning the water supply, and, though company man Isley (Richard Dysart) denies it, the Vernes can’t ignore the strangely mutated wildlife roaming the woods. Robert captures a bear cub for testing and soon finds himself the target of an angry mutant grizzly.”

Just over a week after being hit with a “Do Not Work” order from SAG-AFTRA, the Michael Bay-produced pandemic thriller Songbird has begun building its cast with the additions of Riverdale star KJ Apa and Feel the Beat‘s Sofia Carson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Though some plot details are still being kept under the wraps, the film is said to be set two years in the future during a pandemic lockdown and follows the love story between motorbike courier Nico (Apa), who has a rare immunity to the disease, and Sara (Carson), a young artist. Nico “overcome martial law, murderous vigilantes and a powerful, well connected family, helmed by a matriarch who will stop at nothing to protect her family and maintain her way of life.

In addition to Apa and Carson, the call sheet for the film is said to feature an ensemble cast that includes Demi Moore (Corporate Animals), Bradley Whitford (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Craig Robinson (What We Do in the Shadows), Jenna Ortega (Elena of Avalor), Paul Walter Hauser (Da 5 Bloods) and Peter Stormare (American Gods).

Adam Goodman and Andrew Sugerman’s Invisible Narratives are financing the project while Catchlight Studios is attached to produce. The film is one of the first to go into production in Los Angeles as the real pandemic lockdown is slowly being lifted and the imposition of new safety restrictions make it possible for Hollywood to start slowly resume filming.

Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna Zatara made her first appearance in the Hawkman comic books in November 1964. She is the daughter of a famous stage magician named Giovanni Zatara, who have debuted during the Golden Age of Comics. Naturally, Zatanna inherited his father’s magical powers and career as a professional stage magician. Some of her cool powers are the ability to control the elements, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, and manipulation of reality.

Even though she hasn’t yet made her live-action film debut, she had first made her live-action appearance in popular DC series Smallville and was portrayed by Serinda Swan. However, DC fans got more familiar with her through her appearances in various animated series such as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League Unlimited, and Young Justice as well as in most recent TV shows DC Super Hero Girls and Harley Quinn.

If the solo Zatanna movie would later be confirmed by Warner Bros., it would officially become a part of the studio’s growing list of ongoing live-action projects including James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Ava DuVernay’s New Gods and more.
